Summary
- Cayenne Electric sets SUV record at Shelsley Walsh hill climb with a 31.28s run
- Features Porsche Active Ride and production-level electric drivetrain
- Tows up to 3.5 tonnes, matching combustion models in everyday utility
Porsche unveiled a sneak peek at its upcoming electric Cayenne model, demonstrating its speed by setting a new record at the Shelsley Walsh hill climb in England. Test driver Gabriela Jílková navigated the disguised prototype to a fresh SUV course record of 31.28 seconds, surpassing the previous best by more than four seconds. This electric SUV also achieved a 60-foot sprint in an impressive 1.94 seconds, equaling the rapid initial acceleration of single-seater racing cars.
The Cayenne Electric showcases Porsche Dynamic Ride, a cutting-edge suspension system designed to maintain the vehicle’s stability during hard braking and sharp turns. This innovation enhances both ride comfort and handling. Although some final adjustments are yet to be made, Porsche has confirmed that the prototype’s powertrain and suspension are already at the production stage.
Outside the track, the electric version of the Cayenne showcased its practicality for everyday use by effortlessly pulling a 2-tonne classic car and trailer, equaling approximately 3 tonnes in total weight. Porsche claims that this SUV can tow up to 3.5 tonnes, matching the towing capacity of its gasoline-powered Cayenne counterpart. The electric Cayenne is expected to make its official debut soon, with a subsequent appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed (July 10–13), marking another step in Porsche’s introduction of its second all-electric SUV.
