In 2025, during Anime Expo, it was announced that Hiromu Arakawa’s manga, titled “Daemons of the Shadow Realm,” will be adapted into an anime. Crunchyroll unveiled this news alongside other upcoming anime titles. The original studio behind the legendary series “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood,” bones film, is producing the adaptation. A teaser trailer was released, further exciting fans, as this collaboration between Arakawa and bones promises to be a memorable one, considering their previous work together is considered one of the greatest anime series ever made.

Masahiko Minami, head of the studio, verified the team overseeing the adaptation: Masahiro Ando will be in charge of directing, while Noboru Takagi pens the script. Nobuhiro Arai from Bungo Stray Dogs will take on character design, and Kenichiro Suehiro from Re:ZERO will create the music score. The narrative of Daemons of the Shadow Realm is portrayed as a fantastical tale that blends mystery and the eerie, following twin siblings Yuru and Asa as they discover their extraordinary lineage in a realm controlled by entities called Daemons.

First published in Square Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine in 2021, this manga has released nine volumes thus far and garnered acclaim for its immersive narrative style and emotional intensity. The upcoming anime adaptation is anticipated to continue Arakawa’s tradition of impactful fantasy storytelling, providing fans with an exciting new adventure that seamlessly combines mystery, supernatural elements, and captivating sibling relationships. Although a release date has yet to be announced, Crunchyroll has already secured overseas streaming rights for the series.
