The Project makes huge backflip as lone ranger takes up the mantle of continuing axed show
On June 27, the Project concluded its last episode, yet just a few days later, a mysterious figure assuming the role began to carry on its tradition through social media.
Back in early June, it was made public by Network 10 that a much-loved news discussion program will conclude its run following a 16-year broadcast stint and production of approximately 4,500 episodes.
But it was an anonymous Ten employee who had the last laugh.
The initial post from the new caretaker of The Project playfully suggested, ‘It would have been wise for the administrators to replace the password from ‘Password1′, instead.’
In the caption, the self-proclaimed ‘social media maestro’ playfully taunted their TV superiors, suggesting they were now in control.

On the official Instagram account for the project, there are currently 401,000 users following it. This is a greater number of people than those who tune into The Project or its successor, 10 News+.
10 News+ had a quiet debut last week, attracting only around 291,000 viewers on its premiere evening for the eagerly anticipated news broadcast. The viewership numbers have continued to drop since then.
During the initial broadcast of the new series, the new boss of The Project took to social media to express: ‘It’s still off the air. Still intrigued.’
The enigmatic author wrote, ‘There’s no one I can discuss the amusing global headlines with.’
As for what we were supposed to discuss, and some additional topics… Should I go ahead and share the things that amuse or entertain me instead?
Previously on The Project, Sam Taunton promptly asked: ‘Have I possibly forgotten my wallet in the office?’
‘I stole the money but yes,’ The Project TV replied.
‘I will DM you my CV,’ Taunton added in a joking reference to his axing.

The response online has been immense.
People love an anonymous Gossip Girl in real life, as much as they do in fiction.
Just like the once unknown Instagram profiles ‘Miss Double Bay’ and ‘Pink Patti Cakes’, the mysterious The Project has managed to draw a significant following.
‘I just assumed the news stopped when we did,’ Rove McManus commented.
The Social Media Manager for The Feed SBS even jumped into the mix, saying, “Greetings from another youth news show that was canceled during the 2010s. Let’s grab a drink together.
Matty ‘J’ Johnson, from The Bachelor, expressed that he felt as if he was conversing with the spirit of a departed loved one.
Over the last seven days, The Project TV’s Instagram feed has shared various stories including:
1. A Sydney woman being hit by a cardboard box in the intense storm known as ‘bomb’ cyclone.
2. The cancellation of Kanye West’s Australian visa.
3. An Australian man who spent $6500 to satisfy his craving for Guzman Y Gomez food, who is being referred to as a ‘hero’.

Indeed, the abundance of posts has left some spectators puzzled, as they mistakenly interpreted the activity as a positive indication about The Project’s future on television.
In an update this past weekend, the social media figure shared, ‘I put up some content, it got noticed. Turned out to be a bit more attention than I initially anticipated.’
It appears there’s plenty of news to share! From significant events to peculiar occurrences that leave us questioning reality, there seems to be an abundance for multiple daily updates. And it seems you enjoy this content?
Here’s the idea: I share updates. You peruse them, chuckle, engage in discussions, and perhaps ponder life’s bigger questions (if you wish). In this way, we continue to create an environment that is both intellectually stimulating and witty, without being overly melancholic.
Sounds appealing? Interested in hearing more? Just let me know. If not, I’ll continue as if you are, for my own peace of mind.
Would you like to join us for a fun, brainy adventure? Just let me know by tonight if you’re available.
‘In!’ former host Rachel Corbett commented, alongside hundreds of others.
Although there’s speculation that 10News+ may not last until 2026, Ten seems to be hitting the mark by repositioning The Project as a socially-oriented platform, much like The Daily Aus.
