Julian McMahon’s ex-wife Dannii Minogue spoke about their marriage just a month before his tragic death

Five weeks prior to my beloved idol, Julian McMahon’s untimely passing at the age of 56, hidden in the shadows of his brief yet significant life was the voice of his first ex-wife, Dannii Minogue. In her own words, she shed light on their 18-month marital journey that had ended years ago. This coincidental timing served as a poignant reminder of the indelible impact Julian left behind, even in the quietest corners of our collective memory.

Back in the year 1990, I found myself starstruck and smitten when I crossed paths with the dashingly handsome Aussie-American heartthrob on the bustling set of Home and Away, our shared soap opera on the Seven Network. Little did I know then that this chance encounter would ignite a lifelong obsession!

In the following three years, Dannii (originally known as Danielle) recruited Julian to portray her partner in her music videos titled “This Is It” and “This Is the Way”. Later, reality mirrored art as they got married.

However, Minogue failed to earn the approval of Lady Sonia, McMahon’s late mother, who disapproved of her involvement in politics given it was a realm previously controlled by McMahon’s late father, Sir Billy, who served as the former Prime Minister of Australia.

It turned out that what she claimed was completely untrue and far from my desires. Therefore, she unequivocally communicated her wish for me to stay away and have no involvement in her affairs. However, Julian wished for me to become his spouse.

‘I realized that their bond held deep history, filled with love and admiration, yet lacking closeness in numerous aspects. It was an intense period, overwhelming even, as I found myself deeply captivated by the situation, believing there might still be a chance for things to turn around.’

After the actor known for “The Residence” relocated to New York City to appear in the NBC daytime drama “Another World,” their marriage started deteriorating as Dannii frequently traveled between London and the U.S.

‘Each time I came back there was just something not right,’ Minogue remembered.

In the apartment, I encountered strangers whom I hadn’t met before, and he grew increasingly distant to the extent that he ended the relationship. Meanwhile, I had spent all my savings.

In simpler terms, the singer who sings “Thinking ‘Bout Us” stated that Julian had become financially independent, earning and managing all his own money, whereas she was shouldering all the expenses.

Dannii shared that she wasn’t just emotionally devastated, but financially as well; she had no funds left in her account,” or

“Dannii revealed that not only was she heartbroken on a personal level, but also financially as she had run out of money.

My loved ones provided financial assistance for me, and afterward, it became my responsibility to mend my heart, gain self-assurance, and avoid making poor choices regarding the people in my life who did not offer support.

In 1995, which marked the end of her divorce, Kylie Minogue’s financial situation was dire to the point that she agreed to pose naked for the Australian version of Playboy magazine.

The younger sibling of Kylie Minogue stated, “I would’ve been in a place where I had the option to select things.

‘And now I couldn’t with anything. So that was that was difficult.’

Dannii is not sorry about the difficult and gloomy situation, as it equipped her with a set of skills to avoid repeating similar mistakes in the future and prevent herself from being ‘that person’.

Minogue reflected, finding it pleasant to reminisce now, having been in a relationship with Swiss musician Adrian Newman since 2014.

‘I’m with a gorgeous partner and I absolutely love him.’

During her four-year romantic partnership with Kris Smith that concluded in 2012, the host of I Kissed a Girl (a pseudonym) introduced her 15-year-old son Ethan Edward Minogue Smith into their lives. Kris Smith is Ethan’s father by association.

Previously, Dannii had relationships with Simon Cowell (producer-host of America’s Got Talent), Stelios Haji-Ioannou (a Greek shipping magnate), Jacques Villeneuve (Formula One racer), and Craig Logan (bassist from the band Bros. )

Julian recently marked the 11th anniversary of his marriage to his third wife, Kelly Paniagua, which was on June 30. However, their relationship can be traced back to 2003.

In a touching declaration, Kelly announced that her cherished spouse, Julian McMahon, passed away tranquilly this past week following a courageous battle against cancer. This was shared from the depths of her heart.

‘Julian had a profound affection for everything life offered – his loved ones, friends, job, and fans. His heartfelt desire was to spread happiness far and wide. At this moment, we seek understanding as our family goes through a private period of mourning. May those who found joy in Julian’s presence continue to find it in their lives. We are deeply appreciative of the precious memories.’

Besides McMahon, his 25-year-old daughter, Madison Elizabeth McMahon, whom he had during a two-year marriage with Brooke Burns (which concluded in 2002), is also still alive.

Most notably, the Surfer star gained recognition from his appearances on the FBI series of CBS, the magical drama Charmed on The WB network, and the medical drama Nip/Tuck on FX.
