TalkTV’s James Whale says ‘I haven’t got much longer’ in emotional update about terminal cancer battle

James Whale, a TV host, posted an emotional message on social media over the weekend, disclosing the challenging reality of his ongoing battle with terminal cancer and acknowledging that his time may be limited.

In a touching tribute, the 74-year-old former “Big Brother” star found himself emotional as he sent warm birthday wishes to his grandson, while also contemplating his personal values in a heartfelt message.

In the late stages of cancer, he shared that he wasn’t doing too well, yet he felt the strong desire to let his grandson know how incredibly proud he is of him.

He’s been serving as a Royal Marine for more than six months, approaching a full year, and he’s completed all his training. I couldn’t be more proud if I tried! You wouldn’t believe it.

In February 2020, James received a diagnosis for liver cancer. Even though he underwent precautionary treatments, by the end of that year, he disclosed that the cancer had metastasized to his spinal cord, brain, and lungs.

The obviously emotional celebrity exclaimed: “Happy Birthday, friend! Wishing a happy birthday to everyone who has shown such bravery in putting their lives on the line!

‘360 years ago, the Royal Marines were founded. Happy Birthday to you all.’

Contemplating my life’s end, James remarked: “I’m at peace with being an elderly gentleman, at 74 years old. I’m still appearing on television and radio, but that won’t be the case for too long. I appreciate each and every one of you.

Supporters swiftly flooded James’ comment area on the shared Twitter post with heartfelt messages of appreciation, acknowledging his outstanding job as a presenter.

Your voice has resonated with many, and we appreciate your efforts. It’s heartwarming to know that your family is graced with such an inspiring individual. Our thoughts are with you, and we send our love.

‘God bless you James……I’ll still be waiting Friday night to see you on your show!’

Dear James, I recall tuning into TalkRadio with you as my companion from 1997 onward, even though I was quite young. Over the years, your voice has been a constant in my life, and I’ve never forgotten the impact you had on shaping my world during that time.

‘A true legend, a great man. Sending you all my very best wishes my friend [sic].’

2024 saw me humbly recognized among the esteemed recipients of the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in Her Majesty’s New Year Honours, a moment that filled my heart with sheer elation. The accolade bestowed upon me was for my exceptional efforts and unwavering dedication to the realm of broadcasting, an area I have passionately served and striven to excel in over the years.

By May, James openly acknowledged that his cancer had advanced so significantly, he would be remarkably fortunate if he managed to celebrate Christmas this year.

He said: ‘Sometimes I think it will be easier just to have a heart attack and go.’

James shared that, regretfully, he had tried every available treatment for his cancer and found himself at the conclusion of his battle against the disease, also serving as a presenter.

He expressed his heartfelt thanks for being given the opportunity to speak on the air and share a seat with Ash, despite it being quite challenging, as he has been doing this for 25 years.
