ITV’s “gripping” returning Scottish crime drama confirms release date – and it’s so soon
In a bit, the second series of “Karen Pirie” will hit ITV and ITVX screens, where our main character, Karen, dives into yet another intriguing unsolved mystery from the past.
The series is penned by Emer Kenny and is inspired by the “Inspector Karen Pirie” books written by Val McDermid. In the initial season of 2022, Detective Sergeant Pirie, portrayed by Lauren Lyle (from “Outlander”), is tasked with investigating a cold case that dates back 25 years.
In the upcoming second season of the captivating drama, which will premiere on ITV and be available for streaming on ITVX starting from July 20th, Karen has moved up in rank to become a Detective Inspector following the poignant conclusion of the previous storyline.
What to Read Next
After long battles, Karen has been granted the power she sought, and now she’s tasked with investigating a notorious cold case from 1984. This case involved the mysterious disappearance of an oil heiress and her two-year-old son, who vanished after a kidnapping incident that also included a ransom demand.
The investigation into an old kidnapping case resurfaces when the corpse of an individual connected to the initial incident is found. Under family pressure, the authorities decide to re-examine the case, uncovering hidden, lethal truths along the way.
In the most recent case of solving crimes, Karen will work alongside her partner, Detective Chris Jenks, who goes by the nickname ‘Mint’ Murray, as well as the intelligent yet “romantically complex” Detective Sergeant Phil Parhatka, portrayed by Zach Wyatt.
As Karen and her colleagues dig deeper into events from four decades past, they discover lingering resentments of a political and personal nature that someone is determined to keep concealed. Consequently, it seems the past is still very much alive and relevant.
As a captivated admirer, I’d rephrase that intriguing statement as follows: “The 1984 case of Catriona and Adam Grant has left investigators puzzled and the public spellbound like no other. Now, with the immense prestige attached to this global kidnapping and the relentless demands from Catriona’s father, our team faces the most daunting task we’ve encountered so far in our careers.
Besides the previously mentioned stars, the original cast members Steve John Shepherd and Rakhee Thakrar are rejoining, while Julia Brown, James Cosmo, Saskia Ashdown, Frances Tomelty, John Michie, Mark Rowley, and James Fleet have also signed on as new additions.
Starting on July 20th, you can catch Season 2 of Karen Pirie on ITV and its streaming service, ITVX. If you haven’t seen it yet, Season 1 is also available on the same platform.
