Darth Maul’s New Show Could Connect 3 Star Wars Series in an Epic Way
I’m eagerly anticipating the arrival of the “Darkness Bringer” (Maul: Shadow Lord), as I hope the upcoming show will link it to three distinct “Star Wars” series. Darth Maul stands out among “Star Wars” antagonists because he consistently devises strategies to persist, endure, and above all, continues his vendetta against Obi-Wan Kenobi, fueled by his unquenchable thirst for blood.
Darth Maul, who was initially presented and believed to have perished in “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace,” made a comeback in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.” This character of Palpatine’s former apprentice flourished as his narrative shifted into animation, receiving exceptional voice acting from Sam Witwer. Now, it’s confirmed that Sam Witwer will reprise his role once more in a new animated TV series stemming from “The Clone Wars,” titled “Maul: Shadow Lord.
The New Maul Show Could See The Former Sith Face Off Against Inquisitors
And I’m Hoping For An Amazing Showdown
Ever since Maul resurfaced in “The Clone Wars”, he’s been causing trouble for Palpatine. It’s not surprising then, that he’d be eager to eliminate his former apprentice at any expense. During Order 66, Maul was one of those targeted by the clones, but they were unable to capture or kill him.
Given this context, it’s apparent that Palpatine would find it beneficial for Darth Vader to dispatch his Imperial Inquisitors against the old Sith. Since Maul was pursued by Inquisitors in the season 2 finale of Star Wars Rebels, it’s plausible that these weren’t the first Inquisitors sent after him. Thus, we can anticipate that the series Maul: Shadow Lord will shed light on additional encounters between Maul and these Inquisitors.
Watching Maul, a stellar lightsaber combatant in the Star Wars universe, go up against another Inquisitor would undeniably make for an exciting spectacle. Though it’s plausible that he might have eliminated any Inquisitor dispatched to confront him, I still look forward to seeing how he manages such a battle.
Could An Inquisitor Reveal to Maul That Obi-Wan Kenobi Is Still Alive?
And Renew Maul’s Search For The Jedi
It is clear from the occurrences in the series ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ that the Inquisitors were aware of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s survival and his clandestine existence. Neither the Inquisitors nor Darth Vader succeeded in eliminating him, at least not until ‘A New Hope.’ Given Kenobi’s significant importance as a target, it’s likely that any Inquisitors dispatched after Maul were also privy to this knowledge.
Using Maul’s exceptional lightsaber prowess and his knack for acting without hesitation, it’s unlikely that an Inquisitor dispatched to eliminate him would have had much chance. It may well be in the series Maul: Shadow Lord where we witness a confrontation between Maul and an Inquisitor. In a desperate bid for survival, this Inquisitor might unwittingly divulge information about Obi-Wan Kenobi still being alive.
Although Maul didn’t hesitate to let the Inquisitor live, it could reignite and rekindle his determination to track down and eliminate Obi-Wan Kenobi.
From my perspective, while the specifics of the plot for “Maul: Shadow Lord” are yet to be fully revealed, it’s quite intriguing. I strongly believe that the Inquisitors will play a role in the story given Maul’s relentless pursuit of destroying the Sith and creating a criminal empire. After all, someone as formidable as Maul might require an equally powerful Force user like an Inquisitor to be brought to justice.
This Would Set Up Maul’s Final Arc in Rebels
And Would Perfectly Connect Three Star Wars Projects
In the animated series Star Wars Rebels, it’s evident that Maul has re-committed himself to tracking down and eliminating Obi-Wan Kenobi, a goal he had seemingly abandoned in the past. However, during this show, there is no sign of his involvement with the Crimson Dawn crime syndicate.
Indeed, in this scenario, Rebels portrays Maul dwelling alone on Dathomir, visibly tormented by recollections of Obi-Wan. He even has a mural depicting Obi-Wan’s love, Satine Kryze, with her eyes removed, presumably by the ex-Sith. Was it perhaps an encounter with an Imperial Inquisitor that re-directed Maul’s path, prompting him to target Obi-Wan relentlessly?
One intriguing possibility is how the upcoming Maul series, titled “Maul: Shadow Lord,” might tie together the stories from “Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi,” “Star Wars: Rebels,” and other Star Wars content. The question remains whether this show will primarily focus on Maul’s management of Crimson Dawn or delve into his relentless pursuit of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Fans will have to be patient and wait until the series premieres in 2026 for answers.
