New Character in High Potential Season 2 Spells Trouble for Morgan
In the upcoming season 2 of “High Potential”, Morgan might face some challenges, given that a new character, played by Kaitlin Olson from “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, is set to take center stage. This police procedural series revolves around Morgan Gillory, who employs her exceptional intellect to assist the Los Angeles Police Department in solving complex cases.
As a cinephile, I can’t hide my excitement over the French series, HPI. It burst onto the scene late last year and its debut was nothing short of spectacular. The news that High Potential is returning for a second season was music to my ears! However, with the new season comes some pressing questions, like what happened to her vanished ex? But it seems like a fresh character might pose an even more immediate challenge for Morgan.
Steve Howey Joins High Potential Season 2 As Captain Jesse Wagner
He’ll Be A Main Cast Member
Back in June, I got the exciting news that Steve Howey, a familiar face from hit shows like Reba and Shameless, is hopping aboard High Potential for its upcoming season 2! It seems he’ll be a regular cast member alongside Daniel Sunjata, Javicia Leslie, Deniz Akdeniz, Judy Reyes, Amirah J, and Matthew Lamb – all returning for another round in the show.
High Potential‘sMainCast & Characters | |
---|---|
Actor | Who They Play |
Kaitlin Olson | Morgan Gillory |
Daniel Sunjata | Detective Adam Karadec |
Javicia Leslie | Detective Daphne Forrester |
Deniz Akdeniz | Detective Lev “Oz” Ozdil |
Amirah J | Ava Gillory |
Matthew Lamb | Elliot Radovic |
In my perspective as a movie reviewer, I’d say: “I’m excited to see Howey stepping into the shoes of Jesse Wagner, the latest addition to our precinct’s leadership. From what I gather, this character is a cunning political mastermind with an irresistible charisma. He’s known for his knack for thinking beyond the conventional and often finds himself right in the thick of things, whether it’s a desirable or undesirable presence. There seems to be a hint that he develops a fondness for Morgan as the story unfolds.
Howey’s Notable Television Roles | |
---|---|
TV Show | Howey’s Role |
Reba (2001-2007) | Van Montgomery |
Shameless (2011-2021) | Kevin Ball |
Sons of Anarchy (2013) | Hopper |
True Lies (2023) | Harry Tasker |
Despite speculation that he could form a good relationship with Morgan, the series typically shows that when a well-known actor assumes a leadership position, it often doesn’t bode well for Morgan or the group.
Jesse’s Major Role Sets Up A Trickier Arc For Morgan In High Potential Season 2
Captains Tend To Be Trouble
In the first season, 11th episode of “High Potential”, titled “The Sauna at the End of the Stairs”, we are introduced to Chief Pacheko. Portrayed by renowned actor Keith David, Pacheko appears friendly towards Morgan, but he remains skeptical about the notion of a civilian collaborating with the LAPD, regardless of her extraordinary skills.
Despite Morgan’s abilities contributing significantly to solving the case and finding the true culprit, Pacheko remains somewhat skeptical about why the LAPD relies on civilians for their investigations. Pacheko’s skepticism is briefly shown in one episode, leaving his concern largely unresolved, but it could reappear in future episodes. On the other hand, Howey, who appears regularly throughout the series, ensures that Captain Wagner will be a recurring figure.
How Wagner’s Arrival Can Impact Morgan’s Pursuit Of Roman
He May Have His Own Goals
Wagner might think it inappropriate for the LAPD to allocate any of its assets towards finding Roman, given that Morgan’s advocates, such as Karadec and Selena, appear to be slightly manipulating the rules to aid her investigation. Since Wagner isn’t acquainted with Morgan, he may not feel the same sense of duty towards her cause.
The creative group behind the series, consisting of Drew Goddard, Todd Harthan, and executive producer Olson, might leverage the character played by Wagner to add layers to Morgan’s narrative. It could be possible that his introduction may lead to a romantic entanglement with her at an inopportune moment given the current events.
In another scenario, he might react angrily when Morgan doesn’t respond positively to his charms. Regardless of the outcome, with the new villain in “High Potential”, it introduces another element of unpredictability. He could eventually become a significant leader, but the journey will likely be filled with ups and downs.
