Paul Walter Hauser Revealed as Mole Man in ‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Prequel Comic

The Fantastic Four: Initial Ventures” to be a major July release, debuting Marvel Studios’ long-awaited adaptation of the legendary squad, whose last big screen appearance was nearly a decade ago. Contrary to expectations, this film will not align with the main MCU narrative; instead, it presents an alternate, futuristic Earth as the home of The Fantastic Four. This creative liberty allows for more flexibility in character development within this new timeline. A recent report has surfaced, verifying that a classic adversary from the “Fantastic Four” comics appears in the movie.

As per a report from Cosmic Marvel’s account, it has been revealed that actor Hauser, known for his roles in “The Luckiest Man in America” and the upcoming remake of “The Naked Gun,” is set to portray the antagonist Mole Man. Back in May 2024, during the production phase of “First Steps,” it was announced that Hauser would join the cast, sparking speculation among fans that he might take on a villainous role, which now appears to be true.

The prequel comic, linked to the upcoming film, has confirmed our suspicions. A brief teaser video released a few weeks ago hinted at the live-action adaptation of the iconic monster from the cover of the first issue of the Fantastic Four comic. This same comic features the team battling Mole Man, leading us to believe that he’ll also appear in the movie.

‘Fantastic Four: First Steps’ Has Kept Characters Hidden In Its Trailers

In the promotion for “The Fantastic Four: First Steps“, they’ve done a fantastic job at keeping characters like Mole Man under wraps. So far, all the trailers have mainly focused on repeating the same set of scenes for their advertising, only offering fleeting glimpses of Galactus, the film’s main villain. Additionally, there seems to be a significant focus on the Silver Surfer (Julia Garner), who acts as Galactus’ herald.

In the extra scene after the credits of Thunderbolts, a spaceship with the Fantastic Four’s emblem was shown entering the main Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). But, viewers won’t learn exactly how this happened or who’s inside until the release of First Steps. Moreover, Kevin Feige has emphasized that First Steps plays a crucial role in connection with the forthcoming Avengers: Doomsday, as the team will also be featured in that upcoming ensemble film.

It’s intriguing to speculate about Mole Man’s part in the movie, given that certain trailer sequences depict citizens seeking refuge underground during Galactus’ assault on the city. Whether his character experiences a transformation towards goodness or serves as an initial antagonist for the film is still unclear. Paul Walter Hauser, known for his exceptional talent as a character actor, could potentially bring humor to the movie through his portrayal of Mole Man. His role in First Steps might also contribute to the film’s lighter tone.
