Superman 2025 Cut This Scene After Fans Outraged Over Ultraman Punching Krypto

In the accounts of two of its main actors, the production of Superman had to omit one particular scene due to its overwhelmingly negative reception by test audiences. The long-awaited DC universe as envisioned by James Gunn is all set to premiere on the big screen in the upcoming Superman, marking a new chapter for the iconic blue character under the guidance of the filmmaker behind the Guardians of the Galaxy. Despite some mixed responses during test viewings, excitement for the movie remains high as Gunn and his team work diligently to complete the project.

In some recent interviews about the new Superman film, actresses María Gabriela de Faría and Sara Sampaio shared an adjustment made to the movie following test viewings. They mentioned that a specific scene involving the antagonist Ultraman battling Superman’s pet dog, Krypto, was found to be excessively violent for theater-going audiences and was subsequently altered.

Gabriela de Faría and Sampaio, who portray the Engineer and Eve Teschmacher respectively in the upcoming blockbuster, shared with Jake’s Takes that an initial scene showing Ultraman punching Krypto was originally included. However, this scene was ultimately removed because it didn’t perform well during test screenings.

In a different take, “Originally, they had included a more intense sequence in [the movie], but unfortunately, it got removed. My co-star Nick Hoult and I were disappointed by this decision, but we understand their reasoning…Apparently, the scene showed Ultraman striking Superman’s counterpart, Krypto. The issue was that this particular scene didn’t go over well during test screenings.

In a candid moment, I shared that the movie features scenes where I engage in combat with the extraordinary canine. However, I felt compelled to defend this action by saying, “The dog was the one who initiated the attack on me.

That’s not acceptable behavior. It’s wrong to hit a dog. Hitting is unacceptable in my book, and certainly not what I did. The dog actually attacked me first.

As a passionate fan, I can speculate that the reasons behind the omission of the thrilling clash between Krypto and Ultraman from the final cut might be numerous. Perhaps there were timing issues, or maybe the scene didn’t align with the overall narrative flow. Regardless, my imagination is filled with the possibilities of how this epic encounter would have unfolded!

In this fresh start for DC Studios, the DC Universe (DCU) introduces Superman as its inaugural film, introducing David Corenswet’s portrayal of Superman/Clark Kent on the big screen for the first time. The movie centers around Corenswet’s character as he confronts the villainous Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult.

In the forthcoming blockbuster, Superman will be assisted by a multitude of characters. Notably, his super-powered dog Krypto is set to appear on the big screen for the first time. Additionally, newcomers to the cinematic universe include Guy Gardner (played by Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi).

Why Did They Cut the Krypto/Ultraman Scene?

As a passionate film enthusiast, I can’t help but reflect on the unfortunate removal of the Kyro/Ultraman scene from James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. While some might grumble at the notion that creative decisions were influenced by test audiences, it’s essential to consider if this change might have ultimately benefited the movie as a whole.

Essentially, test screenings serve as a platform for film studios. They provide an opportunity to present preliminary (and sometimes incomplete) versions of their forthcoming movies to audiences, gather insights, and subsequently refine the final output based on the feedback received.

If viewers found the deleted scene from the movie “Superman” unappealing, which seems reasonable, then DC Studios made a wise decision in choosing to remove it.

It seems that the reason test audiences found the scene displeasing might be because it was excessively violent, which may not align with the more light-hearted tone James Gunn is attempting to establish in his universe. Animal violence is a highly sensitive topic both within and outside of film, so it needs to be portrayed with great care when presented on screen.

In the latest Superman film, fans have witnessed Ultraman’s merciless side. However, some viewers might find it overstepping a line if Ultraman were to punch a cute dog like Krypto, which could be considered an unnecessary act of violence.

Alternatively, they might have chosen different methods to portray the character’s cruelty, as it seems that the filmmakers took note of the feedback, concurred with the concerns, and ultimately decided to remove the specific scene.

Perhaps it might eventually be released as a director’s edition, but for now, it remains concealed within the depths of the DC archive.
