Amanda Seyfried Says There’s ‘Fatigue’ When It Comes To Sequels, But I Also Appreciate Her Humorously Honest Comment On Her Own Career

In simple terms, Amanda Seyfried has exciting movie projects coming up in 2025, such as “The Housemaid,” based on a book, and “Ann Lee,” a historical musical drama. However, it’s unlikely that fans will see her reprising a role in a sequel anytime soon. Seyfried has expressed feelings of fatigue regarding follow-ups and humorously hinted at something she desires instead.

Discussions about superhero movie exhaustion have arisen following the financial flops of films such as Ant-Man 3, The Marvels, and Madame Web. In recent times, many other large intellectual properties have been revived for sequels, with more in development or set to be released soon, like Jurassic World Rebirth and Spaceballs 2. During an interview with Rachel Brosnahan, who plays Superman’s character, Amanda Seyfried shared her thoughts on Hollywood’s obsession with sequels and mentioned one she’d be interested in making.

I find that there’s a growing sense of weariness towards sequels, as I yearn for fresh, innovative content. Creating something new takes courage and bravery, while making sequels feels less risky, often driven by financial motivations which can be frustrating. However, if given the opportunity, I would gladly take on Mamma Mia! 3 without hesitation.

As a devoted fan, I was about to express that Amy Adams Seyfried has graced our screens with sequels of her own, such as Ted 2 and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again. Although there’s no definitive announcement for Mamma Mia 3 yet, the producer Judy Craymer hinted in 2020 that the series was intended to be a trilogy, and she’s confident Universal will give it the go-ahead. There’s been buzz lately with Sabrina Carpenter being rumored for a part. Meanwhile, Seyfried herself has mentioned her desire to sing the franchise’s iconic title song in a threequel since Meryl Streep and Lily James performed it in the previous films.

It’s tough not to admire Seyfried’s openness about her desire for a hypothetical third film. She’s shared positive sentiments about the process of making the initial two movies. Moreover, that’s not the sole sequel or cinematic project she has in her sights.

Amanda Seyfried has shown enthusiasm towards starring in Jennifer’s Body 2, which might come as a surprise since the initial 2009 release was a financial failure at the box office. However, with time, the movie has amassed a significant cult following, and a sequel could attract fans from various age groups.

It’s not inaccurate for the former Les Misérables actor to claim that sequels have flooded Hollywood. After all, it could be debated that creating sequels doesn’t necessarily require much creativity when compared to original works. However, these follow-ups tend to generate significant revenue, as demonstrated by the box office success of films like Inside Out 2 and Deadpool & Wolverine.

Amanda Seyfried’s remarks show a thought-provoking contrast about the need for fresh ideas versus continuing series. It’s a deep discussion, and it’s intriguing to listen to actors share their thoughts on this topic. Predicting when the hype will subside is challenging, but I personally would be thrilled if Seyfried appeared in follow-ups to both the “Mamma Mia” and “Jennifer’s Body” films.
