GEN vs AL was another extremely close LoL match at MSI 2025
The competition showcases thrilling League of Legends gaming confrontations. However, even as heavy favorites, the South Korean teams emerge victorious after overcoming considerable challenges.
In the second half of the Mid-Season Invitational 2025 (MSI 2025), it transformed into a fierce League of Legends (LoL) competition between China and Korea. Gen.G and Anyone’s Legend faced off to decide which team would advance to the tournament final. Although the outcome was predictable, the level of intensity during the match was unexpectedly high.
Without a doubt, Gen.G is the clear front-runner for the entire tournament! They not only clinched the MSI 2024 title, but their dominance extended to the Korean regional league as well. In fact, they managed to go undefeated throughout an extensive season, showcasing their superior skills consistently.
At the close of 2024, Legend’s reputation was fortified with fresh additions to their roster, such as Tarzan from Weibo Gaming. It’s plausible that these team adjustments played a significant role in AL claiming the top spot during the Chinese splits in 2025. In Split 1, they finished second, and they emerged victorious in Split 2. The MSI 2025 marks the organization’s inaugural international event; simply reaching the upper semifinals already feels like an accomplishment.
As a passionate spectator, I found myself on the edge of my seat for the epic showdown between GEN and AL, a battle that determined who moves forward to the upper final. Unfortunately, the losing team finds themselves in the zone of elimination. Meanwhile, in another set of matches, T1 squares off against BLG, following a grueling five-game victory over CFO.
Gen.G vs Anyone’s Legend at LoL MSI 2025: The upper semifinal
In this contest, many games were incredibly tight, with each team enjoying brief spells of superiority. It seemed as though either team had a chance to emerge victorious, and ultimately, GEN and AL traded wins back and forth.
Nonetheless, Gen.G managed to be the first team to claim the match point. Following a rather challenging start in game 1, they bounced back impressively and staged an impressive comeback during the 31-minute mark of game 3.
Showing resilience and staying competitive, Gen.G managed to overcome the challenging middle phase of game 5 and ultimately emerged victorious.
General G progresses to the MSI semifinals, and any team from the Legend series must navigate through the elimination rounds to have a chance at the finals. Their first challenge will be against the victor of the match between CFO and KOI.

Game-to-game recaps and stats
Here is our brief recap of each game in the MSI 2025 upper semifinal between GEN and AL.
Game 1
In game 1, the outcome remained unclear until approximately the 10th minute. Subsequently, Anyone’s Legend started building a modest yet steady gold lead following an intense skirmish near the Voidgrubs, which proved fatal for Gen.G.
During the course of the game, Alliance excelled in team skirmishes, resulting in them earning significantly more kills. Following yet another decisive clash, Anyone’s Legend annihilated Gen.G’s base.
Game 2
Game two got off to a leisurely pace, with neither team gaining a significant edge before the 20-minute mark. However, a skirmish over a Dragon resulted in Gen.G scoring an ace, kickstarting their path towards victory.
In this rephrased version: During the match, anyone’s chance to recover with Atakhan’s buff was possible. However, when the monster was nearly defeated, Gen.G swiftly seized it instead. Equipped with four Dragons, the Korean team appeared to effortlessly defeat Baron and their opponents, ultimately claiming victory in the game.
Game 3
During the MSI 2025 match between GEN and AL, the outcome remained tight until approximately the 31st minute. At certain points, GEN seemed to have the upper hand, giving the impression that they might emerge victorious.
Through strategic placement, Gen.G clinched a pivotal battle, leaving four opponents on AL team out of commission. Subsequently, their dominance escalated, ultimately annihilating the Nexus and propelling them towards the decisive victory.
Game 4
Initially having a somewhat sluggish beginning, Anyone’s Legend maintained a steady lead. Despite Gen.G successfully securing several kills, a confrontation over a Dragon disrupted their strategy.
Afterward, AL began to triumph in smaller skirmishes. They persisted until the ultimate assault, where Gen.G simply didn’t have a response.
Game 5
From the First Blood and through successful objective fights — Gen.G pretty much dominated game 5.
At approximately minute 15, Legend seized their moment of triumph by eliminating four opponents. However, this victory only narrowed the gold advantage for AL. Shortly thereafter, Gen.G captured their third Dragon and recorded an ace. From that point on, AL failed to regain control in the series, despite managing to catch some of Gen.G’s players off guard.
In the MSI 2025 upper semi-final, Gen.G didn’t require the assistance of the fourth Dragon since all their opponents were defeated, allowing them to progress and ultimately emerge victorious at the Nexus.
It’s the 21-match win streak for Gen.G!
1) On July 10, we’ll see the final match of the upper bracket. The champions for MSI 2025 will be crowned on July 13 during the grand final. Following that, the teams will go back to their respective league championships. The next major international event is Worlds 2025, scheduled from October 1 to November 1.
In the near future, it’s expected that we will witness an increase in sponsors appearing on the professional League of Legends (LoL) scene, given that Riot Games has recently permitted LoL teams to collaborate with betting platforms.
