Aussie celebrity tributes to Julian McMahon pour in as Rebel Wilson shares her ‘deepest sympathies’ following the actor’s shock death

Australian celebrity Rebel Wilson has taken the lead in paying tribute to Julian McMahon, following his unexpected passing after a hidden struggle with cancer.

On Thursday, the ex-star of Home and Away passed away at the age of 56. His wife, Kelly Paniagua, shared the heartbreaking news on Friday.

Currently, his fellow actors from Australia are posting condolences and tributes on Instagram for the actor.

45-year-old Wilson started things off by posting a group picture featuring herself, McMahon, and Wilson’s family from the set of their film, “The Deb”.

‘All my love and deepest sympathies to the family of our friend Julian McMahon,’ she wrote.

As a devoted admirer, I felt privileged beyond words to collaborate with an Australian treasure, whose talent was not only extraordinary but also matched by an exceptional kindness.

Here is Julian, posing with my mother and our close pals Frank and Sandy during breaks on the set of The Deb. He was telling hilarious jokes and simply radiating legendary charm!

In another instance, the actor who once graced our screens on Home and Away, Lincoln Lewis, too posted a monochrome snapshot alongside McMahon.

The pair were all smiles as they posed for a photo with their arms around each other.

During the brief period we worked on ‘Bait’, I had the pleasure of spending time with Julian and engaging in fantastic conversations, as Lewis, aged 37, expressed, alluding to the 2012 horror/action movie we filmed together.

‘He was such a professional on the set and a real top bloke and gentleman off the set.’ 

Sydney hairdresser to the stars George Giavis also shared a heartfelt message to his Instagram.  

He expressed his sadness this morning upon learning about Julian’s demise, as he posted a photo of them together.

He embodied charm, boasting captivating charisma, an indisputable allure, and an uncommon kindness that is not often seen, especially among the renowned.

‘My thoughts are with his wife, family and friends today.’

As a lifestyle connoisseur privy to the inner circles of high society, I, personally, found myself moved to tears upon hearing the recent news, as reported by The Daily Telegraph. My close friendship with McMahon’s beloved late philanthropist mother, Lady Sonia, has left me with a profound sense of loss and sorrow.

‘The news of Julian McMahon’s passing is heartbreaking,’ she said.

One of the dearest friends I had in life was Lady Sonia McMahon, his mom. And just like her, Julian embodied her elegance, charisma, and resilience in all that he undertook.

‘He was magnetic, warm and deeply kind. His loss will be felt far and wide.’

After the revelation of McMahon’s last public message to his doppelganger, Madison Elizabeth, it followed.

McMahon shared his only child, 25, with ex-wife Brooke Burns.

In March, McMahon proudly played the role of an affectionate father as Madison announced a personal accomplishment on her Instagram account.

In a straightforward and engaging manner, Madison shared a video from her debut yoga class, accompanied by this caption: ‘Dreams do indeed become reality – I just taught my very first yoga class today!’

McMahon promptly left a heartfelt message under the post, celebrating his daughter’s success in landing her dream role in Miami.

McMahon responded with: ‘Love. That’s it! Right there. Thank you!’

For a period of two years, the Australian-American actor was wedded to Pamela Anderson, who is famously known for her role on Baywatch. However, their marriage ended in the year 2001, just a year after their child, Madison, was born.

On Saturday, Burns paid a personal tribute to McMahon by uploading a picture of them together with their child, accompanied by a symbol representing a broken heart.

He went on to marry former model and children’s book author Kelly in 2014 after 11 years of dating.

Presently, Australia’s entertainment world is grieving following the recent demise of cherished actor McMahon.

He recently starred alongside Nicolas Cage in the Stan original film The Surfer.   

On Saturday, the Stan official Instagram account expressed deep sadness upon learning about the death of Julian McMahon.

His remarkable skillset and impactful persona made a profound impression on everyone he collaborated with, extending even to the team responsible for The Surfer production.

These words from Australian producer Robert Connolly show the profound respect and warmth he evoked.

Connolly wrote: ‘Julian was an extraordinary man, a true expert, a captivating performer, and an utter joy to collaborate with.’

His portrayal in “The Surfer” is outstanding – one of numerous stellar performances throughout an exceptional career – showcasing not only his talent but also his magnetic screen presence.

Julian’s immense dedication to the movie propelled him from the shores of Western Australia, all the way to its debut at Cannes, further into the United States, and more. The news of the cherished actor’s demise has likewise stirred ripples of astonishment throughout Hollywood, as celebrities have expressed their emotional homages on social media platforms.

Nicolas Cage expressed his sorrow upon hearing the disheartening update, stating: “Working with Julian for six weeks was an experience, and he stood out as a supremely gifted actor.

Among the scenes I’ve been part of, those we filmed for The Surfer stand out as among my all-time favorites. Working with Julian has been an absolute joy and pleasure; he ranks high on my list of favorite people to collaborate with.

‘He was a kind and intelligent man. My love to his family.’

On a recent Saturday, US actress Rose McGowan, who co-starred with McMahon on the popular show Charmed, used Instagram as a platform to honor the star.

She re-shared an illustration of McMahon wearing what appeared to be angel wings. 

She wrote: “Dear Julian, what a beacon of genius! My thoughts are with you, your loved ones, and the many adoring fans who admire you worldwide. May you find solace.

McGowan, 51, also commented on the original post from artist ‘Stagwarlock’.

She penned, ‘Stunning artwork from a radiant spirit,’ to which the artist responded, ‘@rosemcgowan you were both moving and captivating.’

As a devoted admirer, I too echo the sentiments expressed by my esteemed Charmed co-star, Brian Krause, who embodied the role of Leo Wyatt. Our sympathies extend to the family and friends of the departed individual from the hit series.

He posted a photo of McMahon beaming broadly while remembering the actor as a ‘kind soul’.

‘Sad day for our Charmed family!’ Krause captioned the image.’

‘Julian was known for being incredibly witty, handsomely charming, and genuinely kind-hearted! Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time. His absence will undoubtedly be felt deeply.’

His post was met with an outpouring of condolences from fans and followers.

One fan expressed their sorrow by saying, ‘Farewell JULIAN, our beloved Cole Turner. Taken from us prematurely, he is now joining Shannen up above.’ This fan’s tribute alludes to the passing of Shannen Doherty, a fellow Charmed star, who tragically passed away in July 2024.

Oh my goodness, another fan echoed my sentiments: “Oh no! Not Cole! Heart-wrenching news. Cancer, you’re a monster. But I take solace in the thought that he must have been warmly greeted by Shannen.

What an incredibly talented actor he was, effortlessly playing both heroes and villains with grace. Sadly, his time on this earth was cut short. My sympathies go out to his loved ones.

Holly Marie Combs, famously known for playing Piper Halliwell, shared a heartfelt tribute alongside her fellow cast members from the successful series “Charmed”.

She posted a video clip, originating from a fan page, that contained a series of backstage glimpses of McMahon during the production of Charmed.

The video shows the Aussie actor hamming it up with castmates including Alyssa Milano and Doherty.

‘My favourite pain in the a*** ever,’ she wrote, augmenting the sentiment with silver heart emojis.

In the magical drama Charmed, created by Aaron Spelling, McMahon performed alongside Doherty and Milano.

He played Cole Turner, the half-demon ex-husband of Alyssa’s character Phoebe Halliwell. 

Over a short span of time, McMahon gained widespread popularity among fans. For three consecutive seasons, he was the lead character, but later on, he appeared as a guest star in the seventh season.

While working on Charmed, McMahon had a brief romantic involvement with Doherty during the series’ third season, which spanned from 2000 to 2001.

McMahon was also married to Australian singer and TV host Dannii Minogue from 1994 to 1995. 

McMahon’s wife of 11 years, Paniagua, confirmed his death on Friday.

In a heartfelt declaration to Deadline, she expressed her desire to convey to the world that her cherished spouse, Julian McMahon, passed away tranquilly this week, having fought courageously against cancer.

As a die-hard admirer, I can’t help but echo Paniagua’s words about McMahon’s profound affection for his fans and the people close to him. His life as an actor was more than just a career; it was a passion that he cherished deeply.

Julian cherished every moment of life. He held dear his family, friends, and colleagues. He found great satisfaction in his work and admiration from his fans. Above all, he yearned to spread happiness far and wide,” she expressed.

‘We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy.
