Together, they make a reliable team in Hollywood, having worked together on numerous box office successes. One of their collaborations, which was both successful and controversial, has regained popularity recently, with “The Wolf of Wall Street” gaining traction once more on streaming platforms, even a decade after its initial release.
In simple terms, “The Wolf of Wall Street” has become quite popular as a free stream, currently sitting at the 7th spot on Pluto TV’s Top 10 movies list. Released in 2013, this film has been generating a lot of buzz on streaming platforms in the year 2025 and it also topped the charts in April.
Under the direction of Scorsese and written by Terence Winter (creator of “Tulsa King”), the movie “The Wolf of Wall Street” was adapted from the autobiography of Jordan Belfort, a stockbroker-turned-criminal. Leonardo DiCaprio played the role of Belfort, depicting his journey of constructing a deceitful business empire on Wall Street, marked by extensive corruption. Simultaneously, he managed to win over those around him and squandered a portion of his fortune on drugs.
In the movie, Leonardo DiCaprio acted alongside an Oscar nominee who portrayed Belfort’s second wife, Nadine Geller (originally Naomi Lapaglia). The film also included Jonah Hill in the role of Belfort’s business partner, Donnie Azoff, and Matthew McConaughey, a winner of the Academy Award, as Belfort’s mentor and previous boss, Mark Hanna.
The movie ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ received a 79% positive review from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and was nominated for five Oscars: Best Actor (DiCaprio), Best Supporting Actor (Hill), Best Director (Scorsese), Best Adapted Screenplay (Winter), and Best Picture. Although DiCaprio didn’t win the Academy Award until ‘The Revenant’ two years later, he did receive a Golden Globe for his role as Belfort.
The Wolf of Wall Street Faced Multiple Controversies After the Movie’s Release

In my perspective as a movie reviewer, “The Wolf of Wall Street” garnered appreciation from Belfort himself, yet he pointed out that certain aspects of his characterization in the film were misrepresented. The movie turned out to be a blockbuster, raking in an impressive $407 million worldwide against its production cost of $100 million, making it Martin Scorsese’s most profitable film to date. However, it faced criticism for romanticizing Belfort’s illegal activities and for the questionable use of animals. Furthermore, the financing of the film was embroiled in a corruption scandal, resulting in the arrest of producer Riza Aziz.
*The Wolf of Wall Street* currently holds the Guinness World Record for the highest number of profanities used in a movie. With its resurgence on streaming platforms, you can now watch *The Wolf of Wall Street* on Hulu. Additionally, a documentary is being developed by Campfire Studios that will delve into the life and activities of Belfort and his firm, Stratton Oakmont, where he carried out his “pump-and-dump” strategies.
The Wolf of Wall Street is now streaming on Pluto TV.
