Here, Digital Spy has rounded-up six of the best to watch out for.
What to Read Next
Brick
In this intriguing German film, penned and directed by Philip Koch, the central narrative revolves around a couple, Tim (played by Matthias Schweighöfer) and Olivia (Ruby O Fee). Due to an unexpected barrier – a brick wall – trapping them in their apartment building, they are forced to collaborate with their fellow residents to find a means of escape.
The term “Brick” was praised as a “gratifying and engaging crowd-pleaser” by Screen International. It’s certainly going to leave audiences at the edge of their seats, eagerly anticipating what happens next.
Available to stream on Netflix from 10 July in the UK.
Superman
This month marks the much-awaited arrival on the silver screen of James Gunn’s reboot of a renowned DC series, where David Corenswet steps into the role of Superman alongside Rachel Brosnahan portraying Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult embodying Lex Luthor.
In the revamped DC Universe, Superman serves as the debut production, where the character navigates the balance between his alien roots (from Krypton) and his human identity (as Clark Kent from Kansas).
In the film, you’ll find actors like Edi Gathegi from “For All Mankind,” Anthony Carrigan known for his work on “Barry,” and Nathan Fillion, who appears in “The Rookie” taking on supporting roles. Additionally, watch out for a notable cameo from a well-known star.
Released in cinemas on 11 July in the UK.
Friendship
Originally unveiled in the U.S. back in May, this humor-filled film is set to delight British viewers later this month by focusing on the concept of camaraderie among men.
The movie features Tim Robinson from “Saturday Night Live” as the character Craig Waterman, an introverted marketing executive, longing for friendship with his charming new neighbor, portrayed by Rudd.
The movie titled “Friendship” has received widespread praise, boasting an impressive 88% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The Daily Beast even went as far as to describe it as the “funniest film of the year”. Alongside Kate Mara from “Pose” and Jack Dylan Grazer known for his role in “Shazam”, this movie is directed by Andrew DeYoung.
Released in cinemas on 18 July in the UK.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps
Once again, the renowned Marvel series makes its return, with Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn stepping into the roles of the main quartet.
The film, titled “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” delves into the journey of this super team as they strive to safeguard their unique blend of past and future society from the menace of antagonist Galactus (portrayed by Ralph Ineson). Notably, this movie serves as the inaugural production of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase Six.
In addition to the four stars, fans can anticipate guest appearances by Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer, along with John Malkovich, Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles.
Released in cinemas on 24 July in the UK.
Happy Gilmore 2
Around thirty years since Adam Sandler last played Happy Gilmore with his golden golf clubs, the beloved character is back for a fresh Netflix sequel.
In this upcoming film, we’ll witness the comeback of the ex-ice hockey player transformed into a five-time Tour Championship golf champion, played by the same actor. Christopher McDonald reprises his role as Shooter McGavin, while Julie Bowen returns to portray Virginia Venit, and Ben Stiller once again takes on the character of the antagonist, Hal L.
In the upcoming sequel, Sandler’s real-world daughters, Sunny and Sadie, along with popular figures such as American footballer Travis Kelce and music sensation Bad Bunny, are expected to be part of the cast.
Available to stream on Netflix from 25 July in the UK.
An Honest Life
As a devoted admirer, I’d like to share my excitement about the riveting thriller, “An Honest Life,” a film that delves into themes of betrayal, social status, and the allure of operating beyond legal boundaries. This captivating production is inspired by Joakim Zander’s acclaimed novel, offering an immersive cinematic experience for all who appreciate intrigue and drama.
The storyline revolves around Simon, a new law student in Lund, who encounters disillusionment upon his arrival. He subsequently becomes entangled with a woman named Max during a demonstration, and although he falls in love, his immersion into her circle of anarchists leads him into a predicament, ultimately realizing the harm he has inflicted when it’s already too late.
The movie features actors Simon Lööf, Nora Rios, and Peter Andersson, with Mikael Marcimain, known for directing “Blackwater,” at the helm.
Available to stream on Netflix from 31 July in the UK.
The latest issue of Digital Spy’s print edition, featuring “Oasis – Live in ’25”, is available for purchase! Grab a copy at your local newsstand or online, now going for only £8.99.
