This captivating tale revolves around Clark Kent’s relocation to Metropolis and his subsequent employment at the Daily Planet, thus providing a compelling origin story for our beloved hero.

The comic book also offers glimpses into Superman’s initial days, including his first known encounter with Metallo in Metropolis, as well as his meetings with characters like Guy Gardner, Hawkgirl, and Mr. Terrific. Moreover, it provides insight into the origins of Superman’s longstanding rivalry with Lex Luthor.

In an unexpected turn of events, Superman halting Metallo actually thwarts Lex Luthor’s schemes, considering Lex was the one who created and released Metallo into Metropolis initially. This incident fosters a deep-seated resentment in Lex towards Superman, a sentiment that is likely to play a significant role in the upcoming Superman film itself.

It’s intriguing that the prequel hints at the strategies Luthor might use to defeat his upcoming adversary. Since we know one of these tactics is particularly potent against Superman, it seems plausible that the prequel serves as a valuable preview of what’s to come in the film.

Superman’s Prequel Shows That Lex Luthor Learns The Man Of Steel’s Weakness Before The Movie

The Superman prequel concludes with Superman overpowering Metallo, earning Lois Lane’s respect as Clark Kent shortly afterward, and leaving an ominous hint about the future. This is due to a crucial revelation in the final battle: Lex Luthor learns that Superman is vulnerable to Kryptonite.

Following Superman’s initial victory over Metallo, Lex Luthor enhances the villain using a mysterious green glowing substance he thinks will aid him in combat. The fact that it’s described as a glowing green rock provides an early clue, but it becomes crystal clear later on that this is Kryptonite when Superman, for the first time on Earth, feels weak upon approaching the upgraded Metallo.

After Metallo, the cyborg, was defeated, Luthor managed to recover his head. In this part of the story, Luthor instructs his underling Otis, expressing his curiosity about Superman’s response towards “the stone“, which is revealed to still be inside Metallo’s head. This detail suggests that both Superman and Luthor may have discovered a significant vulnerability in the Man of Steel.

Given that James Gunn made it clear from the start of the DC Universe (DCU) Chapter 1 that the story was meant to be unified, unless a release is explicitly marked as “DC Elseworlds,” it appears logical that the scene showing Superman lying injured in the snow ties into this part of the narrative. In other words, it seems highly probable that this particular moment in the story connects directly to Superman.

Lex Luthor Being Responsible For Superman Lying In The Snow Bleeding In The 2025 Movie Would Make Perfect Sense

In the trailers for Superman, we’ve seen him tackling colossal monsters and demonstrating his immense powers, showcasing his remarkable strength. Given these displays of power, it adds a layer of intrigue to the initial scene in the first Superman trailer where he is lying injured in the snow and seemingly defeated, with Krypto appearing only later.

In this scenario, if Lex Luthor possesses Kryptonite and knows how to utilize it against Superman at the start of the movie, it appears that this is the most plausible reason for Superman’s severe defeat. This assumption is even stronger if Lex continues to employ proxies like Metallo to confront Superman on his behalf.

Placing Luthor as the primary adversary in the movie Superman, making him responsible for Superman’s most severe defeat, will emphasize the intensity of their rivalry. This act also serves to highlight Lex’s menacing potential towards Superman, even without possessing supernatural abilities.

Excited by how much more intriguing the Superman prequel seems to make the DCU film, I’m optimistic that the series will build upon the storylines and foundations laid by Welcome To Metropolis, even though it may take a different shape. Thankfully, we won’t have to wait much longer to see if this is true.
