Anyone but You
A well-known sleep-inducing series starring critically acclaimed actress Sydney Sweeney has stirred viewers on streaming platforms two years following its premiere. The popular romantic comedy, “Anyone but You,” continues to captivate audiences globally during its recent revival.
It turns out that “Anyone but You” is currently sitting comfortably in the top 10 global movies on Prime Video. In fact, it has managed to secure the fifth spot, with a remarkable lead in Argentina and Brazil at the start of July. Additionally, it reached the second position in France. At present, it finds itself amidst the leaders, with John Cena and Idris Elba’s new action comedy taking the top spot on this chart.
Sweeney’s projects have been experiencing a strong surge in popularity across streaming platforms. For instance, the Ridley Scott-produced thriller titled “Anyone but You” reached the top of Apple TV+’s charts just a day following its debut on their platform last year. Additionally, this same series held the number one spot on Netflix’s charts shortly after its premiere there as well.
Anyone but You Sees Sweeney and Glen Powell Star as a Couple
In the movie “Anyone but You,” penned and directed by David Gluck, who is well-known for his work on “Peter Rabbit,” Sweeney plays Beatrice “Bea” Messina, a Boston University law student. She finds herself smitten with Goldman Sachs employee Ben (Powell), whom she meets at a coffee shop and spends a delightful day with. However, their relationship takes a turn for the worse due to some misunderstandings. Fast forward several months, and Bea and Ben find themselves running into each other again, this time at a destination wedding in Australia belonging to Bea’s sister, Halle Spence (Hadley Robinson). To keep the wedding from being disrupted, they pretend to be a loving couple. This charade stirs up rumors of romance between them, as they use their public appearances together as a promotional stunt for their upcoming film.
The strategy of Sweeney and Powell proved successful as “Anyone but You” turned out to be a blockbuster movie, raking in $220 million globally despite its modest budget of $25 million. This film has been credited with reviving the waning popularity of romantic comedies at the box office. Although it garnered positive reactions from audiences and was nominated for three People’s Choice Awards, “Anyone but You” received mixed critical reviews with a 54% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Sweeney currently has numerous productions underway. Apart from her recent roles in “Echo Valley” and “Americana”, she is also involved with the upcoming release of “Eden”, scheduled for August 22 in cinemas. Additionally, she’s connected to several video game adaptations, such as a live-action “Gundam” film and Amazon MGM’s adaptation. Notably, Sweeney will appear in a remake of “Barbarella” and has recently completed filming for her biographical sports drama about boxing legend Christy Martin.
Fans can stream Anyone but You now, via Prime Video.
