Netflix has decided to end their television series, Pulse, which resembles Grey’s Anatomy in style, following only a single season of broadcast.
In the medical series, we follow a third-year Emergency Medicine resident at a Miami hospital. After an unexpected turn of events that led to her superior’s report and suspension, she was promoted to a higher position.
In an unfortunate turn of events, not only was she thrust into challenging circumstances initially, but then a hurricane struck the region, causing a mandatory lockdown and overwhelming surge of patients.
According to Variety, no definite reason has been given for the cancellation of the show by the streamer. However, they pointed out that the audience numbers decreased significantly following the initial week, and there were numerous unfavorable reviews.
According to our review on Digital Spy, we pointed out that the overpowering narrative arcs don’t leave room for deep character development, which could make those characters more lovable.

The review states that instead, they provide simplistic background stories that are forced into the narrative as a means to give depth.
It was also pointed out by Variety that Pulse debuted on April 3, coincidentally on the same day as the penultimate episode of HBO’s The Pitt. However, it’s worth mentioning that The Pitt had a far more favorable response (currently boasting a high 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 76 reviews) and has been given the green light for another season.

Besides “Pulse,” another series that Netflix decided not to renew for a second season this week is “The Residence,” which received generally positive reviews.
In this humorous, crime-themed tale, Uzo Aduba from “Orange is the New Black” stars as an eccentric detective investigating a homicide within the White House. Every character becomes a potential suspect, even global sensation Kylie Minogue.
Pulse and The Residence’s first and only seasons are available to stream on Netflix.
The latest print edition from Digital Spy is available now! You can purchase the “Oasis – Live in ’25” issue at your local newsstands or online for only £8.99.
