HBO Max Drops Major DC Show and More This Summer—Surprise Content Vanishing!

Starting August 2025, one popular DC superhero series will no longer be accessible on streaming platform HBO Max. As fresh content arrives and contracts expire for various projects, HBO Max’s collection of DC shows is undergoing modifications to keep up with the upcoming DC Universe storyline.

According to an announcement from Warner Bros. Discovery, the series “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” will no longer be available on HBO Max starting August 2nd. This popular Superman show is just one of several Superman-related projects currently streaming on HBO Max before the release of James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film in theaters. Unfortunately, it appears that the show’s tenure on the streaming platform may be drawing to a close, although specific reasons for this decision have not been disclosed at this time.

As a devoted movie critic, I’ve had the pleasure of revisiting “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,” which graced ABC screens from 1993 to 1997, spanning an impressive four seasons. In this captivating series, Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher brilliantly portrayed the iconic duo, Clark Kent and Lois Lane, with Lane Smith, Katherine Callan, Eddie Jones, and John Shea adding depth to their roles as Perry White, Martha Kent, Jonathan Kent, and Lex Luthor respectively. The show masterfully blended Superman’s timeless adventures with a strong emphasis on the intricate relationship between Clark and Lois, both within and beyond the Daily Planet. As we bid farewell to July, I encourage fans to catch this gem before it departs from HBO Max.

Dredd

The 2012 film “Dredd” is inspired by the title character from the comic book series “2000 AD.” It was directed by Pete Travis and featured Karl Urban, Wood Harris, Lena Headey, and Domhnall Gleeson in its cast. In this movie, Karl Urban portrays Judge Dredd, a tough law enforcer living in a dystopian metropolis called Mega-City One, which is situated in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. His mission involves confronting a notorious drug lord and restoring order within a colossal apartment complex.

Doctor Who

In late July, Max will take down thirteen seasons of the popular BBC sci-fi/drama “Doctor Who”, with these seasons dating back to 2005. Although some years are not included, the episodes showcase the acting talents of Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi, and Jodie Whittaker as various iterations of the main character, “The Doctor”. Additionally, other BBC content departing from HBO Max includes “Torchwood” and “The Sarah Jane Adventures”.

Courage the Cowardly Dog

From 1999 to 2002, Cartoon Network aired Courage the Cowardly Dog, a series centered around a timid beagle named Courage who resides with his elderly guardians, Muriel and Eustace Bagge, in the heart of Nowhere. Despite being known for his fearfulness towards numerous things, Courage repeatedly demonstrates bravery in the face of supernatural dangers and malevolent creatures that pose a threat to his family’s safety.

How to Train Your Dragon

First appearing in 2010 (with a fresh live-action adaptation currently underway), the captivating story of How to Train Your Dragon follows a band of young Vikings as they engage in an age-old conflict with dragons. Featuring performances from Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Gerard Butler, Jonah Hill, Craig Ferguson, and others, the narrative unfolds the extraordinary journey of a teen named Hiccup, who initially seeks to slay a fearsome dragon but instead forms an unlikely bond with it and discovers the creature’s true essence.

Bridget Jones’s Diary

As a cinephile, I can’t help but reminisce about my personal favorite, the hilarious and heartwarming trilogy starring Renée Zellweger, Colin Firth, and Hugh Grant – the unforgettable Bridget Jones. In 2001, we were introduced to this witty 32-year-old woman on a journey to regain control of her life by chronicling every aspect of it in a diary. From her fitness regimen to her romantic entanglements, food habits, love life, and more, Bridget Jones’ Diary offers a delightful peek into the ups and downs of modern womanhood.

And if you haven’t had enough of Bridget’s adventures, HBO Max is saying goodbye to not one but two more installments – the 2004 sequel, Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason, and the 2016 conclusion, Bridget Jones’s Baby. These films continue to capture our hearts with their relatable characters and charming humor.

Madagascar

In 2005, the popular animated film “Madagascar,” produced by DreamWorks Animation, made its debut. This movie stars Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, and Sacha Baron Cohen, who later became famous for his role in Marvel films. The story revolves around a group of animals from New York’s Central Park Zoo: Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe, and Gloria the hippo. They live comfortably in their enclosures until Marty gets curious about life beyond the zoo and initiates an attempt to escape.
