Sheridan Smith drama with “twists and turns” that really “grabs you” gets new UK streaming home

Season 1 of the Sheridan Smith drama The Teacher has found a new streaming home in the UK.

In simpler terms, the four-part series follows the character of Jenna Garvey, portrayed by Smith, as she grapples with figuring out whether she had an inappropriate encounter with one of her 15-year-old pupils during a night out while intoxicated.

Initially broadcast on Channel 5 in the year 2022 and subsequently accessible on that channel, it is now available for streaming by Disney+ subscribers as well.

The season boasts a very favorable 79% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes based on evaluations from nine critics, with the Daily Telegraph commending its engaging concept and applauding its straightforward approach.

Smith’s act stood out as a remarkable moment in the program. The Irish Sunday Independent praised her as ‘exceptional yet again’, while Herald Scotland pondered, “How could TV dramas exist without her?

While promoting the show, Smith said that she was hooked from the first time she read the script.

As a gamer, I can’t help but be captivated by Jenna. She’s got this intricate depth to her, and it keeps me guessing whether she’s being honest or not. I shared that thought with WhatToWatch recently.

As a gamer, I found myself utterly captivated by this tale’s unexpected twists and turns. The plot kept me guessing, and once I started reading, I simply couldn’t stop. It’s not often that I finish a script in one sitting, but I devoured every single word of it.

The Teacher is actually an anthology drama, with a second season that debuted last year.

In place of Smith, the lead for season 2 was Kara Tointon, a previous star from “EastEnders,” who played a different teacher navigating complex circumstances. However, these specific episodes are not accessible on Disney+ as of the moment this is being written.

You can watch Season 1 of “The Teacher” on Disney+, but both Seasons 1 and 2 are available for streaming on Channel 5’s streaming platform.

The latest print edition from Digital Spy is out now! You can purchase the “Oasis – Live in ’25” issue at your local newsstands or online for only £8.99.
