Avengers: Doomsday Survival Rankings – Who Will Make it to Secret Wars?
The upcoming films “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Secret Wars” are set to feature more than 30 heroes, some of whom may meet their end. These iconic teams, including the Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four, are gearing up for an epic showdown against Doctor Doom, portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. As with previous MCU blockbusters that concluded a saga, fans anticipate significant deaths in “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars.” In the last series, characters such as Gamora, Vision, Black Widow, and Iron Man bid their tragic farewells in “Infinity War” and “Endgame.
Ranking Avengers: Doomsday’s Heroes by Survival Chances
When assessing the survival prospects of the numerous heroes in ‘Doomsday’, it’s crucial to remember that Marvel Studios has verified the return of 12 characters from the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and Thunderbolts in ‘Secret Wars’. Consequently, these characters are highly likely to survive ‘Avengers 5’, unless a plot twist results in them appearing as a Variant in ‘Secret Wars’.
Mister Fantastic
Pedro Pascal is set to make his appearance as Reed Richards in “The Fantastic Four: Initial Journey“, before joining forces with Earth’s most powerful superheroes. The conflict between Mr. Fantastic and Doctor Doom forms the core of the “Secret Wars” comic saga, suggesting that Pascal could become one of the main attractions in “Avengers 6“.
Invisible Woman
In the “Secret Wars” comic series, Sue Storm was known as Susan von Doom on Battleworld, where she married Doctor Doom and assisted him in maintaining control at certain times. Whether this relationship dynamic will be reflected in the Marvel Cinematic Universe adaptation is uncertain, given that the characters may not have crossed paths yet. Nonetheless, Vanessa Kirby’s role is anticipated for “Avengers 6” regardless.
Human Torch
Joseph Quinn’s portrayal of Johnny Storm is set to premiere in the MCU, with many anticipating his survival not just in “Doomsday” but also “Secret Wars.” Following Chris Evans reprising his role as Human Torch in “Deadpool & Wolverine,” it might be intriguing to see these two characters collaborate during the “Secret Wars,” delivering an action-packed scene brimming with fire and intensity.
The Thing
Absolutely, Ebon Mass-Bachrach’s character won’t be leaving us anytime soon, given that The Fantastic Four 2 is rumored to be underway. Although it’s not confirmed whether Mark Ruffalo will reprise his role as the Hulk, the prospect of these two powerful heroes clashing on screen for the first time in live-action during Secret Wars is quite exciting.
Sam Wilson/Captain America
Following “Captain America: Brave New World”, Sam Wilson is now officially establishing the next wave of Avengers, and it seems he has already onboarded five heroes onto his team. Fans may not find the new Captain America disappearing after “Doomsday”, as he’s likely to continue playing a pivotal role in both upcoming movies.
Doctor Strange
Benedict Cumberbatch didn’t appear in the cast announcement for “Doomsday,” but hinted that Doctor Strange will reappear in both upcoming “Avengers” films following the teaser of his Incursion investigations with Clea in “Multiverse of Madness.” There are rumors he may also return to star in “Doctor Strange 3” amidst the ensembles, potentially laying groundwork for the grand finale of the Multiverse Saga.
Winter Soldier
Just like the Fantastic Four, the Thunderbolts (now known as the New Avengers) have been officially confirmed to be part of the 14 main characters for “Avengers: Secret Wars”. Sebastian Stan’s character, Bucky Barnes, will carry on his heroic journey in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, joining both familiar and new allies to engage in a Multiversal battle.
Yelena Belova
After achieving her dream of being the public hero in Thunderbolts, Florence Pugh’s character Yelena Belova is set to join Earth’s strongest heroes, mirroring her sister’s path. With Secret Wars bringing together various universes, it leaves us pondering if Scarlett Johansson might reprise her role as an alternate-reality Black Widow, potentially leading to a heartwarming reunion or confrontation between Yelena and her deceased spy sibling.
Red Guardian
David Harbour is slated for two more Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbusters, where his character Alexei Shostakov, also known as Red Guardian, will bring even more humor to the upcoming “Avengers” films. Previously, Red Guardian had harbored dreams of battling Captain America, and it seems that his wish might come true in either “Doomsday” or “Secret Wars”. With the possibility of a superhero Civil War brewing among the Thunderbolts and Avengers, whether it’s Sam Wilson or Steve Rogers who will engage in conflict, remains to be seen.
U.S. Agent
I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be embarking on more heroic adventures in “Secret Wars,” and I can only hope for some quality time with Sam Wilson following our clash in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” The upcoming Avengers films might just feature four shield-wielding heroes – Steve Rogers, Sam Wilson, Red Guardian, and U.S. Agent – coming together to create an unforgettable action extravaganza on the big screen!
Ghost
Fans didn’t expect Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost character to reappear following Ant-Man and the Wasp, but she will resurface in Secret Wars. It remains a mystery what antics she might engage in with the New Avengers, but it promises an intriguing turn of events as she reunites with Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne, who are now fighting on the side of justice.
Peggy Carter
Hayley Atwell’s agent has announced that she has signed contracts for the next Avengers films, set to reprise her role as Peggy Carter. It is likely that she will continue to portray this character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but there’s a strong possibility that her Captain Carter version from What If…? could appear in live-action again in Secret Wars.
For the ones whose future remains unclear past Avengers: Doomsday, who do you think might make it through to Secret Wars?
1.) Shang-Chi
Fans have eagerly anticipated a follow-up to “Shang-Chi” for nearly four years now, but unfortunately, it’s not here just yet. However, Simu Liu’s martial artist character will reappear in “Avengers 5”. As one of the MCU’s freshest superheroes with a promising future and a sequel on the horizon, Shang-Chi seems to have the best chance of surviving the cataclysmic events of “Doomsday”.
2.) Sentry
Lewis Pullman recently debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Bob Reynolds in “Thunderbolts,” but he hasn’t yet fully showcased the full potential of his character, the Sentry. Consequently, it seems likely that Reynolds will remain unscathed in “Avengers 5.” Furthermore, we might see him harnessing his colossal powers for benevolent purposes, forming a formidable ally against Doctor Doom.
3.) Joaquin Torres/Falcon
In the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe film, “Captain America: Bold New World,” the Falcon came perilously close to meeting his end and was left severely wounded. Though Joaquin Torres is expected to make a full recovery by “Doomsday,” it seems unlikely that Marvel Studios would subject him to such danger so swiftly after his injuries.
4.) Namor
In comparison to other new characters in the MCU, it’s less certain how long Namor will stick around, as there’s a legal issue that restricts him from having his own project. However, Marvel Studios can make use of Tenoch Huerta’s character, the ruler of Talokan, as a secondary character who might team up with Doctor Doom – a partnership they’ve had in the comics on occasion.
5.) Steve Rogers
According to reports, Chris Evans, a long-time star in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is set to reappear in “Avengers 5” as a different superhero character called Nomad. It appears that Steve Rogers’ adventures will carry on until at least “Secret Wars,” given that Marvel Studios recently wrote off a Chris Evans character, the Human Torch, in “Deadpool & Wolverine.
6.) Shuri
In her recent development as both Black Panther and an Avenger member, Letitia Wright’s character Shuri appears to have a good chance of survival. However, rumors suggest that Marvel Studios might be considering Damson Idris for the role of T’Challa’s grown son. This could potentially lead to another individual taking up the mantle of Black Panther, which might signal the end of Shuri’s storyline.
7.) M’Baku
In other words, since Winston Duke’s character, M’Baku, has gained significant popularity in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there’s a possibility that he might be written off to increase the tension without significantly affecting one of the main superheroes. As King of Wakanda, M’Baku could potentially meet his end as T’Challa’s son is predicted to claim the throne, making him a potential victim in this power transition.
8.) Gambit
In a different reality, every X-Men featured in the movie “Doomsday” will originate. This significantly increases their likelihood of perishing during the clash with Doctor Doom. Since Channing Tatum has recently made his debut as Gambit in the film “Deadpool & Wolverine,” it could be suggested that his chances of surviving are comparatively higher than other recurring mutants.
9.) Cyclops
Marvel Studios is preparing to restart the X-Men storyline, and it appears that Cyclops is among the three freshly recast characters who are expected to spearhead the mutant team. This development might imply that James Marsden’s iconic laser-shooting mutant character may not survive the Avengers movies, although his demise could potentially be delayed until the storyline of Secret Wars.
10.) Beast
In a simpler and more conversational style: Kelsey Grammer’s character, Beast, hinted at the X-Men’s comeback in the extra scene of The Marvels. He was there with Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau. Although his role leans more towards science, Beast shares the same peril as other X-Men members as the potential danger from the Avengers approaches.
11.) Nightcrawler
Alan Cumming, who played Nightcrawler, has revealed details about “Doomsday,” suggesting that the X-Men will engage in a battle not only with the Fantastic Four but possibly also the Avengers as well. This revelation might have Kevin Feige considering retaliation, potentially writing off iconic characters like Nightcrawler and other established X-Men heroes from the storyline.
12.) Mystique
Rebecca Romijn will reprise her role as Mystique in the film “Doomsday“. Her ability to shape-shift may prove intriguing during the Avengers versus X-Men conflict, as she can potentially mimic the appearances of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and even Doctor Doom. This could lead to a situation where she becomes ensnared by the Multiversal villain.
13.) Magneto
At 86 years old, Ian McKellen joins the ranks of the MCU’s most senior actors by returning as Magneto in “Avengers 5”. Unlike his well-known counterpart, Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier, Magneto has not met an on-screen demise. This could suggest that Magneto’s resilience might carry him to the “Secret Wars”, or perhaps the events of “Doomsday” will provide a heart-wrenching end for this longtime Marvel character.
14.) Professor X
In a comparison between the survival probabilities of the multiverse X-Men, it appears that Professor X portrayed by Patrick Stewart has the highest likelihood of perishing. This is largely due to his history with Fox and Marvel Studios, as he has been written out on three separate occasions in films such as “X-Men: The Last Stand,” “Logan,” and “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
15.) Wong
As a devoted Marvel fan, I can’t help but acknowledge that Doctor Strange, in the comic book realm, is renowned as the Sorcerer Supreme. However, the mantle currently rests with Wong. To truly embody the essence of his comic book counterpart and safeguard Earth from mystical perils as its primary guardian in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), there might come a time when Wong must make the ultimate sacrifice, relinquishing his position to pave the way for Strange.
16.) Ant-Man
Fans speculated that Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man might not make it through “Avengers 5”, titled “The Kang Dynasty”, as one of the initial Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) heroes to meet Jonathan Majors’ character, Kang. However, even though Kang seems to be out of the picture, Rudd could potentially bring an end to his ten-year MCU tenure in “Doomsday”.
17.) Thor
For more than ten years, Chris Hemsworth has embodied the character Thor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Following a recent comment, many fans speculate that he may be considering retirement. As an essential part of the franchise and one of its mightiest heroes, Thor’s alleged demise could strengthen the position of Doom as a formidable adversary.
18.) Loki
It is said that Loki will have a crucial part in the movie “Doomsday,” serving as the narrative’s central plot device or objective. The Avengers and Doctor Doom are expected to compete against each other to reach him first. Since Doctor Doom is likely to prevail leading up to “Secret Wars,” this could potentially result in Loki’s demise, causing him to lose control of the Multiverse, unfortunately for Tom Hiddleston’s character.
It’s worth noting that Loki, the Trickster God, has met his end on numerous occasions within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Given this track record, it would be quite surprising if he managed to survive Doomsday.
