Slow Horses “cannot do” this one “brilliant” thing in season 5 – and here’s why

The creator and supervisor of “Slow Horses,” Will Smith, has shared his reasons for excluding a particularly outstanding part from Mick Herron’s books in the forthcoming TV series.

As a dedicated gamer, I’m pumped up to dive back into the world of gaming when the thrilling spy series makes a comeback on Apple TV+ in September! The much-anticipated fifth season finds Jackson Lamb (played by Gary Oldman) and his motley crew at Slough House tackling a series of terror attacks that have struck various parts of the country.

In an interview with Radio Times, alongside Herron, Smith discussed how the forthcoming six episodes needed to modify certain narrative strategies employed in the 2018 book “London Rules.” This adjustment presented as quite a “test” or “difficulty” for them.

What to Read Next

Mick starts off by creating an attack scene that makes you feel like you’re in the Middle East, but it turns out to be set in Derbyshire. This is a fantastic touch, but we can’t replicate this effect in our series.

In his explanation, Herron shared that his latest novels primarily focused on the selection of words, as he had chosen ‘sand coloured’ in the first sentence which sets a specific tone for readers. As a humorous aside, he mentioned that certain sections of his books were unfilmable.

Intrigue surrounds tech whiz Roddy Ho’s stylish new love interest in the fifth season, as a string of strange incidents sweep through the city. It’s up to the Slow Horses to unravel the mystery and understand how everything ties together.

Although season five hasn’t been released yet, the continuation of the series has already been assured, as Apple TV+ approved a sixth season, drawing from Herron’s “Joe Country” and “Slough House,” in October.

In the sixth season, the Slow Horses find themselves fleeing as Diana Taverner draws them all into a lethal game of retribution and retaliation. Apple TV+’s creative director, Jay Hunt, hints at an exciting journey filled with sharp wit and intense action.

Slow Horses season 5 premieres on Apple TV+ on 24 September.

The latest print edition of Digital Spy, titled “Oasis – Live in ’25”, is available for purchase! Grab your copy from newsstands or buy it online for only £8.99.
