“Unmissable” new Scotland-set psychological thriller confirms exciting cast news with big update

In an exhilarating development, the highly anticipated psychological thriller series, Maya, airing on Channel 4, has just announced some thrilling casting updates.

The six-episode series penned and produced by Daisy Haggard chronicles the story of a mother and daughter who are relocated to a rural part of Scotland due to a perilous situation. Despite their attempt at starting anew, the ghosts of their former life persistently trouble them.

Following Channel 4’s commission in February, it has been officially announced that Haggard will be acting alongside Bella Ramsey, known for her roles in “The Last of Us” and “Game of Thrones.” They will portray the main mother-daughter characters in the production.

According to Ramsey’s statement, the story and characters crafted by Daisy are remarkably vivid, complex, darkly amusing, and eerily ominous. Each character seems to leap from the pages, the dialogue is sharp and intelligent, and he’s eagerly anticipating playing Maya alongside Daisy’s Anna.

Since the conception of this show, there has only ever been one character named Maya that I envisioned, according to Haggard, who will jointly direct the series with Jamie Donoughue. The role was so vividly etched in my mind when I wrote it that I can hardly believe Bella is willing to be a part of it.

Bella’s skill is nothing short of enchanting, incredibly gifted, and I eagerly anticipate our collaboration. Moreover, I am equally excited to venture into directing, and feel fortunate to share the role of co-directing this series with the remarkable Jamie.

Executive producers Daisy Mount and Alex Mercer praised Bella as an exceptional talent of her generation, stating that she was their top choice to act alongside Daisy’s character, Anna, in the upcoming production. They hinted that the two leads would share a distinctive and meaningful bond.

As a gamer, I can’t wait to dive into the captivating world of Maya, touted as an atmospheric psychological thriller that’s hard to miss. This game promises to delve into intricate themes of predatory male behavior, family, and love, all while showcasing Haggard’s signature blend of warmth and humor. It’s set to be a heartwarming and witty tribute to an unbreakable bond, making it a must-play for anyone seeking a thought-provoking gaming experience.

The filming for our upcoming six-part series, often referred to as a “humorous thriller,” is set to start on Scottish locations later in the year. We’ll announce additional cast members in the near future.

Maya’s launch date has not been announced yet. The second season of “The Last of Us” is available on Sky Atlantic and the streaming platform NOW in the UK, while it airs on HBO in the United States.
