Foo Fighters release new song to mark 30th anniversary of band’s debut
Foo Fighters are celebrating the anniversary of an old album with the release of a new song.
Approximately 30 years after the Foo Fighters released their self-titled debut album on July 4th, 1995, they unveiled “Today’s Song” on Wednesday, marking their first original track since the release of “But Here We Are” LP in 2023. This album was published following the passing of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins in 2022.
Today I awoke yearning for change, and I knew it was necessary,” Grohl sings accompanied by a soft organ melody, “So here is my struggle / Turning to dust, returning to dust.” Later, the lead vocalist sings about waiting for someone to fix you, as the song erupts with the band’s trademark guitar effects and powerful drum beats.
Grohl, aged 56, expressed that throughout the years, we’ve experienced times of immense joy and deep sorrow, triumphs and defeats, healing fractured bones and hearts. However, we’ve traveled this road side by side, supporting one another, through thick and thin. This is because in life, it’s impossible to journey alone.
Speaking about past band members, he commented, “It’s obvious that without William Goldsmith’s endless enthusiasm, Franz Stahl’s experienced guidance, and Josh Freese’s powerful magic on the drums, our tale would be inadequate. Thus, we express our sincere appreciation for the time, music, and memories we’ve made together during those years. Thank you, gentlemen – especially Josh Freese, who temporarily filled the role after Hawkins’ passing but was later let go from the band in May for reasons he still doesn’t understand.
In my own words, I’d say: “And, Taylor, your name echoes daily, sometimes bringing tears, sometimes a smile, yet you’re always there with us, in every step we take, everywhere we go. The depth of your soul’s beauty is only matched by the profound longing we feel in your absence. We all yearn for you more than words can express. The Foo Fighters will forever carry Taylor Hawkins in every note we play, until we finally reach our shared destination.

Music
The newly released box set from the Boss compiles 83 unreleased tracks across seven unique vinyl albums, each featuring a distinctive sound and topic.
As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I’m excitedly speculating about the drums on Foo Fighters’ latest track, “Today’s Song.” Despite a representative for the band staying mum on who took the drumsticks, the rhythm seems reminiscent of Dave Grohl’s work with Foo Fighters during their debut, where he was a one-man band, and his stint as Nirvana’s drummer. Interestingly, this week saw Foo Fighters dropping a cover of Minor Threat’s iconic hardcore anthem “I Don’t Wanna Hear It,” a blend of music from 1995 with vocals recorded in the future – 2025 to be precise.
Today’s track was released barely a year following the disclosure made by Grohl, who is married to Jordyn Blum and has three daughters together, about him having another daughter with someone other than his spouse, as mentioned in an Instagram post.
In a message, he expressed his intention to be a compassionate and nurturing parent to her. He loves his wife and children deeply, and is making every effort to rebuild their trust and seek their forgiveness. It’s worth noting that Grohl’s eldest daughter, Violet (19 years old), collaborated with Nirvana’s surviving members in a performance of “All Apologies” at the FireAid concert in January; his younger daughter, Harper, contributed by designing the single artwork for “Today’s Song.
In October, the Foo Fighters have planned a string of performances across Asia. Later, they will be the main act at the Corona Capital festival taking place in Mexico City during November.
