Iconic 70s rock band tease possible reunion tour despite previously retiring over serious illness

Aerosmith hinted at a possible return to touring, just under a year since they shocked fans by declaring they would stop performing live concerts.

By August 2024, it was announced that the band would cease touring following a 54-year career, primarily due to health problems affecting their lead singer, Steven Tyler, and his persistent vocal difficulties.

In 2023, during their farewell tour, the 76-year-old singer suffered injury to their vocal cords. Now, there seems to be a chance that they might make a comeback on stage.

As a lifestyle connoisseur speaking from personal experience, I’d like to share that I, much like Joe Perry, the legendary guitarist of Aerosmith, maintain frequent contact with my former bandmates. In a captivating conversation on the Trunk Nation radio show on SiriusXM, this was one of the intriguing tidbits he revealed.

He mentioned that they chat around twice a week, they both performed at a charity event in San Francisco, and Chris Robinson was also part of the lineup. It was quite a spectacle watching the two of them passing the microphone back and forth.

Perry chuckled, “I’m sure there’s another Aerosmith performance ahead, and I must admit, creating the playlist for that isn’t something I’m particularly excited about.

He admitted, nonetheless, that “I’m not sure, buddy, we’ll simply have to wait and see. I’ve always approached each performance as if it were my last. I dislike sounding pessimistic, but I pour all my energy into every show. And I’m honestly unsure. To be honest, the very first concert we played for that tour that was eventually canceled, we genuinely felt there would be another one, but unexpected things occur.

In January, Tyler made an appearance at the Hollywood Palladium for a charity concert organized by Janie’s Fund, which was his first performance on stage since the band announced their retirement.

During the conversation about that particular show, Eddie Trunk, the host of Trunk Nation, enquired if Perry thought Tyler might agree to another tour.

As a lifestyle expert, I’ve come to believe that, given the opportunity, he would embrace the journey ahead. To me, it’s merely a question of taking those steps forward.

Reflecting on my personal experiences, the COVID-19 lockdowns have reshaped my perspective on embarking on new adventures – an insight I am eager to share.

He explained, “It felt as if we were on a different level, and let me tell you, it’s intense. With everyone being at home due to COVID for such an extended period, it was almost surreal: ‘Wow, this is what living like others looks like,’ having the luxury of sleeping in your own bed every night, and hopefully not enduring the misery of COVID. In the beginning, it was quite challenging.

However, this experience has given me a new perspective – it seems like there’s always an event on my schedule, somewhere I need to be, which is quite overwhelming when I think about it as a whole. Yet, I feel I have the energy and desire to continue with it.

Back in 1970, a small spark of inspiration ignited into Aerosmith. Thanks to our incredible fans, that spark grew into a flame and has been burning strong for over five decades. Some of you have been with us since the start, and all of you are the reason we made our mark in rock ‘n’ roll history.

This band was established in Boston back in 1970, and since then they’ve been on tour for more than fifty years. Their numerous chart-topping songs have earned them four Grammy Awards, as well as their induction into the Rock ‘N Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.

This band, famously referred to as ‘The Bad Boys from Boston,’ was trailblazing as well. They pushed musical barriers by merging rock and hip-hop genres successfully in their groundbreaking collaboration with Run-DMC on the iconic song “Walk This Way.

With Steven, the band includes Joe Perry on guitar, Tom Hamilton handling the bass, Joey Kramer manning the drums, and Brad Whitford contributing on another guitar.

It’s been a privilege beyond measure for our music to be woven into the fabric of yours. In every club, during every massive tour, and at both grand and intimate moments, you’ve provided us with a spot in the soundtrack of your lives.

In the previous year, due to a vocal cord injury sustained by the lead singer, it became necessary for the renowned rock group to push back the concert dates of their final tour titled “Peace Out: The Farewell Tour.

The Walk This Way hitmakers had not returned since the tour postponement.

The team shared with their fans: ‘We’ve always aimed to astound you when we perform. You’re aware that Steven’s voice is unique and extraordinary. He has been diligently working for months to restore his voice to its previous state, following his injury. Despite having the best medical team supporting him, we’ve witnessed his determination in the face of challenges.’

Unfortunately, it seems that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not achievable. With great sadness and after much thought, we have made the painful yet essential decision, united as brothers in music – to bid farewell to the touring stage.

In a heartfelt manner, they wrapped up their message to their massive fanbase, thanking them and all those who assisted in shaping them into one of the most legendary bands in Rock ‘n Roll history.

We are profoundly thankful, more than words can express, to everyone who joined us for our final journey. A heartfelt gratitude goes out to our skilled crew, our exceptional team, and the multitude of talented individuals whose contributions made our historic journeys possible.

We’re deeply appreciative, beyond what words convey, to all those who journeyed with us for the last time. A heartfelt thank you to our expert crew, impressive team, and thousands of gifted people whose efforts enabled our groundbreaking expeditions.

In September 2023, Steven issued a statement detailing the reasons for delaying his tour and how things had gone awry.

When he penned it, Tyler shared that a strict medical advice had been given to him, requiring him to abstain from singing for the following thirty days.

During last Saturday’s performance at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York, I suffered an injury to my vocal cords which caused them to bleed later on, Tyler explained in reference to that specific event.

In his statement, he suggested that we might need to move some dates around so that we can return and provide you with the top-notch performance you’re entitled to.

Initially, the band declared their farewell tour for May 2023, which was scheduled to kick off in September of the same year across North America, spanning 40 shows and continuing till January 2024.

Aerosmith holds the title as America’s top-selling hard rock band ever, with a staggering total of over 150 million albums sold globally, and an impressive 85 million of those within the U.S. alone.

They have set the American record for the highest number of album certifications as a group, with 25 gold, 18 platinum, and 12 multi-platinum albums. Additionally, they share this record with another American group for the most multi-platinum albums.

Over the span of their career, Aerosmith has garnered four Grammy Awards, two of which were in the Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal category. These honors were received for “Livin’ On The Edge” in 1994 and “Crazy” in 1995.

In the early ’70s, Perry, Hamilton, and Tyler, along with guitarist Ray Tabano, first joined forces, having crossed paths during their time in a band named Jam Band.

They combined their talents to create a distinctive sound that primarily stems from the foundations of blues-infused hard rock, yet it’s enriched by elements of pop rock, heavy metal, glam metal, and rhythm & blues.

In 1973, the band launched their self-named first album, which was followed by “Get Your Wings” in 1974. However, it wasn’t until they released “Toys In The Attic” in 1975 and “Rocks” in 1976 that they finally broke into mainstream success.

For over a decade, the band embarked on numerous tours, and they scored around a dozen hits on the famous Hot 100 charts, among which were Sweet Emotion, Dream On, and Walk This Way.

Nevertheless, a slight hiccup occurred in their journey to success when Perry and Whitford departed from the band in 1979 and 1981, primarily due to struggles with substance abuse and internal discord within the group.

It wasn’t until 1984, when Perry and Whitford rejoined the group, that the band experienced significant commercial success in the early 80s.

In a successful collaboration, they reclaimed their number one position on the charts by teaming up with the popular rap group Run-DMC for a remake of Walk This Way.

They garnered several awards for their popular albums Pump (1989), Get a Grip (1993), and Nine Lives (1997), which were all multi-platinum.

In 1998, they scored their initial chart-topper with the song “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing,” which was featured in the movie soundtrack of Armageddon.

In the year 1999, they introduced a theme park attraction of their own, namely the Rock ‘n Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, at Disney World in Florida. This same attraction was also launched in Paris at a later date.

In the year 2001, Aerosmith shared the Super Bowl half-time stage with artists like Britney Spears, boy band NSYNC, and rapper Nelly. That same year, they were also honored by being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
