Nelly sparks debate for revealing the parental duties he WON’T do… as fans feel sorry for wife Ashanti

Nelly will not be receiving any father of the year awards anytime soon. 

On a recent episode of “Nelly and Ashanti: We Belong Together,” it was disclosed that at age 50, the hitmaker is unwilling to wake up during the night to tend to his newborn son.

The rapper sparked some outrage when he revealed his daddy duties also don’t include diaper duty. 

The couple are parents to son Kareem, who will turn one on July 18. 

Ashanti, 44, can be heard saying, “You know what? It’s really strange that you’re going to be sound asleep while he’s making all that noise.

Nelly responded that he ‘doesn’t hear’ the baby crying.

‘It’s ridiculous,’ the Only U singer asserted, again.

‘It’s a gift, I guess,’ he retorted, adding,  ‘I’m blessed with that tune-out.’

In a recorded chat with companions, the artist behind Air Force Ones is overheard saying that if Kareem hasn’t said “I’m hungry” or “I need to use the bathroom” yet, Ashanti will take charge.

Afterward, the artist from Country Grammar playfully suggested that Ashanti might want to make the most of her time with Kareem, since “once he starts moving and speaking on his own, he’ll be hanging out with the group.

One user angrily commented on Ashanti’s Instagram, saying, “Girl, this show is making your tea spill! It’s not you, though. It’s Nelly. Perhaps you should have held off on this one… but good luck to you, mom.

‘Girl u got ur baby leave him again,’ advised another. 

In a chat during an interview on Today promoting the Peacock show, I mentioned to her before our child was born that I said, “Now pay attention, I’m here, but the idea of chasing toddlers at 50 isn’t appealing…”, expressing my willingness for her to have as many children as she desires. I also added that we could afford to hire as numerous nannies as needed.

Nelly has four children who are older than him – Chanelle, aged 31, and Cornell III, aged 26, whom he co-parents with his former partner Channetta Valentine. Additionally, he is the father figure to Shawn and Sydney, his late sister’s children, having adopted them following her passing in 2005.

In 2003, Ashanti and Nelly initially crossed paths, then experienced periods of reconciliation followed by separation, lasting approximately ten years each time, until they parted ways definitively in 2013.

In 2021, they reconnected for a professional event – the Verzuz battle between Ja Rule and Fat Joe – which took place at Madison Square Garden.

It seems sparks were flying around that time, as it was later disclosed that the couple secretly got married in December 2023, and gave birth to their son Kareem seven months afterward.

Originally a private pair, they chose to share their lives on a reality TV series, as Nelly expressed in a Peacock Blog post, “I felt it would be fascinating for our fans to witness another side of us.

Ashanti stated, “She finds the vehicle interesting since it offers a rare glimpse into areas typically not visible on a regular basis.

She mentioned that this situation was new to her, being her initial experience, while he had been through similar events like Dancing with the Stars and Real Husbands of Hollywood.
