The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes gets new UK streaming home ahead of next Hunger Games movie

The prequel to “The Hunger Games,” titled “The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes,” has secured a new streaming platform for viewing in the United Kingdom.

Just added to Netflix in the UK and Ireland is the film featuring Rachel Zegler portraying Lucy Gray Baird, alongside Tom Blyth in his role as a younger Coriolanus Snow.

In the year 2023, a prequel to the original Hunger Games movie was introduced, taking place 64 years prior to the initial film’s events. The storyline focuses on a young Snow, who would later become the president of Panem (as portrayed by the late iconic figure Donald Sutherland), as he takes on the role of mentor to Lucy, a tribute hailing from the struggling district 12.

In the film, Hunter Schafer from “Euphoria” plays Tigris Snow, a character who was also seen in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2,” and who is the cousin and trusted ally of Coriolanus.

In the cast list, you’ll find Jason Schwartzman portraying the character of Lucky Flickerman, a magician, alongside Peter Dinklage and Viola Davis.

Following “Songbirds & Snakes,” another Hunger Games prequel titled “Sunrise on the Reaping” has officially begun production, based on Suzanne Collins’ novel with the same name.

The movie takes place 24 years prior to the first Hunger Games, centering around a younger incarnation of Haymitch Abernathy, who was initially introduced as Katniss and Peeta’s mentor in the original film.

Under the guidance of director Francis Lawrence, the film titled “Sunrise on the Reaping” is set to explore the theme of political corruption within the backdrop of the 50th installment of the brutal games that once saw the participation of Haymitch.

In the Hunger Games series, Woody Harrelson’s character Haymitch is set to be played by Joseph Zada, known for his roles in “Invisible Boys” and “Total Control.” Whitney Peak has been chosen for the role of Lenore Dove Baird, who will share a romantic relationship with Haymitch.

Additional actors have been added to the ensemble, with Kieran Culkin and Elle Fanning taking on the younger versions of Caesar Flickerman and Effie Trinket respectively. These characters were first portrayed by Stanley Tucci and Elizabeth Banks in the 2012 movie.

In the UK and Ireland, you can now stream “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes” on Netflix. The sun will rise on the Reaping ceremony on November 20, 2026.
