Star of one of Black Mirror’s best ever episodes confirmed for exciting new Netflix drama series

Black Mirror star Mackenzie Davis has joined the cast for an exciting new drama from Netflix.

The actor known for his role as Yorkie in the highly praised 2016 episode ‘San Junipero’, is expected to act alongside Josh Hartnett in an unnamed six-part series, which will be filmed and based in Newfoundland, Canada (according to Deadline>).

The narrative will focus on a resilient fisherman named Hartnett, whose family, community, and traditional lifestyle are endangered by an enigmatic marine beast. As unexplained terror grips their secluded settlement, the fisherman embarks on a mission to safeguard everything dear to him.

Jesse McKeown is the one who brought the show into existence, taking on the role of co-showrunner during the fourth season of “The Umbrella Academy.” The writing crew consists of Karen Walton, Perry Chafe, and Natty Zavitz, with Hartnett contributing as an executive producer.

I, a devoted fan, can’t help but sing praises for Davis, whose talents have graced films like Blade Runner 2049 and Terminator: Dark Fate. However, it was her unforgettable performance in San Junipero that truly stole the spotlight within the annals of Black Mirror’s exceptional episodes.

In this fourth episode of the series’ third season, Gugu Mbatha-Raw portrays Kelly. The story unfolds in a coastal town that exists within a virtual world. The introverted character Yorkie and extroverted Kelly are at the heart of the plot as their relationship starts to flourish.

The episode turned out to be incredibly successful, even earning it two Primetime Emmy Awards. Previously, Davis expressed a willingness to resume her character in a follow-up series, but only if writer Charlie Brooker came up with an engaging concept.

In 2019, the actor expressed his willingness for another project when he said to the Radio Times, “Absolutely, I’d be up for another one!”. He praised everyone involved in the production, adding, “I have doubts about whether a sequel is necessary, but if anyone can pull it off, it’s Charlie and Annabel [Jones], the brilliant minds behind the show.

As a dedicated gamer, I’ve been hooked on that gripping dystopian sci-fi show since it was broadcast on Channel 4. It wasn’t until 2015 when Netflix stepped in to continue its journey. This year, the series returned for its seventh season, boasting a powerhouse cast with Peter Capaldi, Emma Corrin, and Paul Giamatti leading the charge.

Black Mirror streams on Netflix.

The debut print magazine from Digital Spy, titled “British Comedy Legends,” is now available! You can purchase it at your local newsstands or online for only £3.99.
