ITV announces “chilling” new Scotland-based serial killer thriller

ITV has unveiled an upcoming chilling serial-killer mystery series, which is scheduled to take place amidst the remote landscapes of rural Scotland.

In the chilling tale known as “The Dark“, I find myself immersed as a gamer, starting off in the picturesque Scottish wilderness where the lifeless body of a young man is discovered in an unsettling manner.

According to M.M. (GR) Halliday’s first book, “From the Shadows,” the series unfolds around detective Monica Kennedy, who embarks on an investigation that she suspects is merely the opening act of a truly chilling sequence of events.

As paranoia grows, long-held suspicions and hidden truths come to surface, leading the townsfolk to suspect that one of their own could be a ruthless serial killer.

With her familiarity handling the grim realities of human nature, Monica Kennedy swiftly finds herself enmeshed in an intensified chase between a sly murderer and herself. It’s solely on her shoulders to halt this menacing creature before it adds any more casualties to its list.

However, whenever her personal past resurfaces, she starts doubting her decisions. Could it be her choices that pose the greatest threat to herself and her loved ones?

This upcoming show, titled “Poison Pen Studios’ Production” by Matt Hartley, is set to start shooting this year, primarily in and around Glasgow.

So far, there hasn’t been any announcement regarding the cast for the series that Poison Pen’s Ben Stephenson, Preethi Mavahalli, Luke Woellhaf, and Fern McCauley are executive producing along with Hartley.

Hartley expressed his pride in contributing to ITV’s legendary detective series collection by penning “The Dark”. He also shared his eagerness for audiences to encounter the unique Detective Inspector Monica Kennedy and delve into the mysteries she uncovers.

ITV’s Drama Director, Polly Hill, stated: “The Dark is an engaging new drama that introduces the courageous DI Monica Kennedy, who must track down a serial killer in this genuinely spine-tingling Scottish tale. Matt’s adaptation is exceptionally captivating, and I am thrilled to collaborate with him and the Poison Pen team on adapting this novel.

A release date for The Dark is yet to be announced.

The inaugural printed magazine from Digital Spy, titled “British Comedy Legends,” is available for purchase! Grab a copy from your local newsagent or buy it online, currently retailing at an affordable price of £3.99.
