Carrie Bickmore reveals heartbreaking reason she appeared on The Project after having a miscarriage
Carrie Bickmore shared details about the heartbreaking incident when she experienced a miscarriage, as well as her reasons for appearing on The Project immediately following this event.
The TV presenter, who had been leading the canceled news program for 13 years, recently welcomed back his former colleagues Waleed Aly, Pete Helliar, and Dave Hughes on the Hit Network’s Carrie and Tommy show to reminisce about some of the program’s most significant moments throughout its history.
In a recent gathering, I shared a personal experience from my past – back in 2018 when Lisa Wilkinson joined as a co-host on The Project for the very first time, that was the day I experienced a miscarriage.
Despite doctors recommending her to forego the dilation and curettage procedure due to scheduling conflicts with filming, the media figure was adamant about continuing with the shoot, fearful of public perception should she not participate in Lisa’s initial appearance.
She reminisced about sitting before a doctor who suggested a D&C, but what she remembered most was his comment: “Unfortunately, I can’t perform the procedure tonight as Lisa Wilkinson is appearing on The Project for the first time.

She stated that the impact of skipping the performance seemed greater to her than the ramifications of forgoing medical care, owing to how the public viewed her connection with Lisa.
She shared that she was seated on-air that evening, conscious of the fact that I had lost my unborn child, while outwardly appearing cheerful and enjoying myself… such was the influence of the external world.
Later, Carrie admitted that she enjoyed a truly exceptional professional bond with the ex-host of Today, however, the press portrayed them as adversaries throughout their careers.
Oh, what a cringeworthy moment and such an absurd situation! I can’t help but feel ashamed about the choices I made, as it seems they were based on pitting women against one another – a regrettable demonstration of power.
On a Friday, visibly emotional Carrie found it tough to keep her tears at bay while rejoining The Project set for the last installment of the series.
Carrie became a part of the news discussion show when it debuted in July 2009, previously called The 7PM Project.
Carrie found herself getting quite emotional as she delved into how the show affected both her professional journey and private life, with a special emphasis on its significant contribution to her Beanies for Brain Cancer charity.
She emotionally expressed, “If not for all of you at home, I wouldn’t have managed to collect $25 million instead of my initial goal of $1 million.

Later on, she spoke directly to both the cast and crew, mentioning that without The Project, her fundraising initiatives wouldn’t have achieved nearly as much success.
In the course of this entire presentation, Carrie shared that when we initially began, my goal was simply to create awareness. However, today, I’m overwhelmed because we now have a brain cancer treatment center, and individuals are participating in clinical trials. This development has left me feeling quite emotional.
After that, it was time to wrap up the event, as Waleed expressed sincere gratitude to Carrie for gracing her former hangout once more.
Carrie responded gratefully, implying that many tears had been shed as the last episode approached.
Yesterday, we had a heartfelt reunion, and it felt incredibly moving to be there together – you and I, Pete [Helliar]…watching everyone behind the scenes, she expressed, her eyes brimming with unshed tears.
She remarked, “The friendships I’ve made through this program are truly lifelong ones.” It significantly influenced both my personal and professional growth.
In essence, the last episode served as a recap of the show’s highlights, featuring standout moments from its 16-year run.
A variety of famous personalities such as Katy Perry, Kylie Minogue, Robert Irwin, Jessica Mauboy, and Kathy Lette, among others, expressed heartfelt goodbyes.
