MasterChef star Amina Elshafei reveals devastating health diagnosis

MasterChef Australia star Amina Elshafei is battling a devastating autoimmune disease. 

On Sunday night, the well-liked television personality took to Instagram to announce some news, accompanied by a collection of photos, with the intention of raising understanding about a debilitating illness.

For the past 18 months, she has been managing a new health issue known as Myasthenia Gravis, which she mentioned coincides with June being recognized as Myasthenia Gravis Awareness Month.

Amina went on to thank her healthcare providers.  

‘I want to express my gratitude to my remarkable specialists, with special thanks to my neurologist. I am also incredibly appreciative of the compassionate nursing staff at the dialysis and day infusion units at Royal North Shore Hospital.’

She added: ‘Moreover, I’d like to express my gratitude to all those generous individuals who selflessly donate their blood. Their donations aid in providing life-saving treatments for people like me reliant on blood products, and they also ensure the availability of emergency blood supplies.’

Myasthenia Gravis represents a persistent autoimmune condition that interferes with the normal signaling process between nerves and muscles, resulting in muscle weakness, tiredness, and challenges in performing routine activities such as talking, eating, and walking.

There’s no cure, according to the Mayo Clinic. 

It wasn’t long before the post was showered in well wishes.

Amina is a mother to two young children, and works as a paediatric nurse. 

Amina, born to a South Korean mother and an Egyptian father, moved along with her family from Saudi Arabia to Australia in the year 1989, embarking on a fresh chapter of their lives.
