Squid Game creator teases series spin-off storyline
The creator of the popular series, Squid Game, named Hwang Dong-hyuk, has hinted at a few possible plot ideas he’s thinking about for future spin-off productions.
The massive Korean drama has come back for its third and concluding season on Netflix, leaving room for additional tales to be spun within that storyline’s world.
Originally, I had a vague thought that perhaps we could explore a spin-off, not a sequel, but rather a story set during the three-year interval between seasons 1 and 2, focusing on Gi-hun’s search for the recruiters. (Hwang said this to Entertainment Weekly.)
What to Read Next
In those three years, I’d be intrigued to delve into the lives these figures – the recruiters, Captain Park, and the officers, even the mysterious masked men – led when they weren’t immersed in our gaming world. What secret adventures or challenges did they face during their off-hours? Their stories outside the arena could be as captivating as the ones we experience within it.
“So that is some vague ideation that I have that could possibly be developed in the future.”
Previously, Hwang mentioned that he had significantly lost many teeth from the pressure of producing the first season. More recently, he disclosed that a similar incident occurred while working on season three, albeit to a reduced degree.
He initially believed everything would be alright, but this time he ended up extracting two additional teeth. Previously, during season 1, he had removed approximately eight teeth, and currently, he has two more out without replacements. Therefore, he is simply waiting.
With the release of season three, fans have been given an opportunity to share their reactions to the surprise appearance of a notable celebrity, and also discuss the conclusion (avoiding any spoilers regarding both events).
At Digital Spy, we believe that although the ending might be disappointing for certain individuals, it is indeed an accurate and truthful portrayal, carrying a touch of gloom.
Squid Game seasons 1-3 are now streaming on Netflix.
The debut printed issue of Digital Spy’s magazine titled “British Comedy Legends” is available for purchase! Grab your copy from local newsstands or buy it online, currently retailing at only £3.99.
