F1: The Movie speeds to new record after impressive box-office opening

F1: The Movie has set a new record after an impressive box-office opening.

According to Deadline, the sports drama is projected to rake in an impressive $55 million during its debut weekend in the U.S. and Canada.

Despite having two more days left, the film has already broken the record for the largest opening weekend earnings for any Apple Original Movie in the region.

In its debut weekend, the previous box office champion “Killers of the Flower Moon” earned approximately $22 million in North America alone, while the film “F1: The Movie” is projected to make that amount in a single day.

According to the report, the movie is expected to perform exceptionally well globally too. Contrary to popular assumption, it’s not just appealing to an older crowd; instead, it’s garnering significant attention from viewers aged between 13 and 24.

The Film portrays the intense rivalry that unfolds between an aging ex-Formula One racer, modeled after a true racing icon, and a rising star driver whose fame continues to grow.

The movie, which is produced by Apple, is set to premiere on AppleTV+. However, its release and promotion are happening jointly with Warner Bros.

At Digital Spy, we didn’t find “F1: The Movie” particularly captivating. Our review points out that, while the technical skills showcased during the racing sequences are impressive, it’s challenging to become fully engaged when the characters aren’t compelling enough. The excitement is present on-screen, but often fails to resonate with viewers.

F1 enthusiasts may find themselves somewhat disappointed by the amount of actual racing featured in the film.

F1: The Movie is out cinemas now.

The inaugural print issue of Digital Spy’s magazine, titled “British Comedy Legends,” is available for purchase! Grab your copy from newsstands or online at a budget-friendly price of only £3.99.
