Disney+ Just Added the One Marvel Feature Fans Have Been Begging For

Disney+ recently introduced an exciting, long-awaited feature on its streaming service, making history and fulfilling the dreams of Disney’s most devoted Marvel enthusiasts. Ever since Disney+ debuted about five years ago, it has been the go-to platform for Marvel content (both from the Disney family and projects that emerged prior to Disney purchasing the company). Marvel diehards have long fantasized about a dedicated channel for relaxing viewing of their beloved superheroes.

Disney Plus has introduced a new addition to its streaming lineup – a dedicated Marvel channel called “Marvel Animated Rewind.” This channel offers non-stop live streaming of Marvel’s animated content. The channel was launched on either May 27 or May 28, replacing the “In A Galaxy Far, Far Away” Star Wars channel, and it is exclusive to Disney+ Premiere subscribers.

Introducing “Marvel Animated Rewind” signifies a milestone in the annals of Disney+ and Marvel, as it becomes the pioneering streaming platform dedicated entirely to content produced by Marvel.

Earlier, some Marvel projects were available on Disney+’s “Hits & Heroes” streaming channel. However, this channel has since been removed from the platform. Now, the only Marvel content that can be found in a Streams playlist is Spidey and his Amazing Friends, which is part of the “Playtime” Streams playlist.

The “Marvel Animated Rewind” Stream consists of a grand total of 16 productions. Each one is an animation, spanning from series that first aired as far back as the 1970s, all the way up to those that debuted during the 2010s.

The following is a comprehensive roster of all Marvel animated shows available on Disney+ under the “Marvel Animated Rewind” streaming service:

This change aims to provide a more conversational and engaging tone, making it easier for readers to understand the content.

  • Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes
  • The Avengers: United They Stand
  • Fantastic Four (1994)
  • Fantastic Four: World’s Greatest Heroes
  • The Incredible Hulk (1996)
  • Iron Man: The Animated Series (1994)
  • Iron Man: Armored Adventures
  • Silver Surfer
  • Spider-Man (1981)
  • Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1994)
  • Spider-Man: Unlimited
  • Spider-Woman
  • Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends
  • Wolverine and the X-Men
  • X-Men: The Animated Series (1992)
  • X-Men: Evolution

I’m delighted to share that with a Disney+ Premium subscription, streams are accessible round-the-clock, functioning much like conventional TV channels. As a premium viewer, I can join the stream whenever it suits me, enjoying the live content being broadcast at any given moment.

It’s worth pointing out that series such as “X-Men ’97” and “What If…?” aren’t featured on the “Marvel Animated Rewind” streaming service because these programs are too new to have been previously aired. You can discover why the showrunner of “X-Men” criticized “What If…?” Season 3 here.

Why Is Other Marvel Content Not on Disney+ Streams?

As a devoted cinephile and Marvel enthusiast, I often ponder about the absence of a standalone streaming platform for Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) content on Disney+. With such a vast array of beloved characters and intricate storylines under the Marvel umbrella, it seems only natural that fans crave a dedicated space to immerse themselves in this captivating universe.

It seems that the function of Streams isn’t entirely clear, but there’s a possibility that Disney+ might need to provide royalties to creators, actors, and other industry professionals who were associated with specific productions. In conventional TV, these royalties are due every time a show is broadcast. If this applies to content streamed through Streams on Disney+, it could mean an extra, unnecessary cost for Disney to pay royalties for projects that are already accessible on the platform.

On Streams, the majority of content featured in their channels is less well-known compared to other projects. To illustrate, the 1981 Spider-Man series probably doesn’t get anywhere near the number of views that Doctor Strange receives.

Essentially, content featured on Streams channels tends to attract viewers who might not typically watch as much of other content. This is because these channels showcase projects that may not have done exceptionally well on the platform initially. If a movie or show has already garnered a decent audience on the platform, there’s usually no need to further promote it on a Streams channel, especially if such promotion could incur additional costs for Disney in residuals.
