It Sounds Like Lewis Hamilton Really Earned His Producer Credit On F1

In a somewhat skeptical tone, it’s worth noting that all production credits are not equally significant. The entertainment industry has a long history of what we call “vanity credits,” where people get their names on a project without contributing much or anything to its production. Sometimes this is done to boost the project’s credibility. However, in the case of the 2025 movie F1, Lewis Hamilton‘s role was far from just lending his name for legitimacy. Instead, he played an active part behind the scenes, not merely validating the Formula 1-themed title but actively participating in its production.

Jeff McCobb from TopMob had an enlightening conversation about Hamilton’s role in the creation of the F1 movie during a press day earlier this month. Jerry Bruckheimer highlighted that Hamilton contributed his sports expertise not only during the film’s final stages but also during the scriptwriting process, making significant contributions. Bruckheimer explained this, stating that Hamilton’s involvement was instrumental, not just when the film was being wrapped up, but even when the screenplay was still being drafted.

Lewis Hamilton, who is a seven-time Formula One world champion, collaborated with me on our film project, not only as a partner but also as a producer. This meant he devoted an immense amount of time to the movie’s development and scriptwriting. We worked tirelessly, often until late into the night, scrutinizing every detail in the script to ensure it accurately portrayed racing scenes. For instance, Hamilton would specify details such as ‘In turn three at Silverstone. You’re in second gear. You’d be in third gear.’ This was important because he could hear the unique sounds of a racing car. Consequently, we had to adjust the sound effects to make them as accurate as possible, reflecting his expertise and knowledge of the sport. In essence, we were striving for an authentic representation of Lewis Hamilton’s world.

It’s clear that the group most excited about F1 will be those passionate about Formula 1 racing, and they have a keen eye for anything amiss. This attention to detail even extends to the unique sound of a gear shift in specific races, and Lewis Hamilton has shown himself to be an important source of information in this regard.

Apart from his role as scriptwriter, Hamilton shared his expert insights on preparing F1 drivers to appear competent on track. A compelling case could be made that Lewis Hamilton holds the same level of influence in Formula One as Brad Pitt does in Hollywood. Interestingly, these two prominent figures collaborated during the production of director Joseph Kosinski’s film in an intriguing manner. As per Bruckheimer, Hamilton was given a sneak peek at Pitt’s training sessions before filming commenced, and he was left impressed by what transpired.

It appears they are both highly esteemed in their respective fields. Remarkably, Brad and Damson [Idris] took three months away from work solely to master driving these vehicles. Notably, we introduced Lewis to Brad for the first time, and Lewis later approached us, expressing his admiration for Brad’s athletic abilities, emphasizing that such skills require extraordinary athleticism, with exceptional hand-eye coordination being essential.

According to Joseph Kosinski, it’s essential that Brad Pitt possesses the skills required for driving a Formula 1 car, as without them, the production of F1 wouldn’t have been successful. However, he found comfort in the talent Lewis Hamilton acknowledged.

In another conversation, director Joseph Kosinski discussed the iconic statuses of Lewis Hamilton and Brad Pitt. He pointed out that while their skills vary, they share a common origin: an immense dedication to their respective crafts. As Kosinski put it, “They are both driven by a deep passion for what they do.

I found myself in awe working alongside two titans in the industry. It became evident why they’re revered; their passion for their craft shone through every moment. They were relentless in their pursuit of excellence, ensuring everything was perfectly executed. Having them as producers for this film was nothing short of extraordinary.

The movie titled F1, featuring Brad Pitt, Damson Idris, Javier Bardem, and Kerry Condon, is hitting theaters this weekend. In my review for TopMob, I highly recommend catching it on the big screen as it’s an experience tailored for just that. Keep an eye out here on TopMob for more updates from our interviews with the filmmakers and cast in the days to come.
