Cause of death: Beach Boys singer Brian Wilson reportedly died of respiratory arrest

It’s been revealed that Brian Wilson, the famed Beach Boys musician who significantly influenced their sound, passed away at the age of 82, just two weeks ago.

According to reports from TMZ, published on Thursday, the death certificate indicates that the actor, Wilson, passed away on June 11 due to respiratory arrest, sepsis, and cystitis (bladder inflammation). Prior to his death, he had been dealing with various health problems, including a neurogenerative disorder, obstructive sleep apnea, chronic respiratory failure, chronic kidney disease, and mental health issues and drug addiction for many years. Wilson’s conservatorship was established in May 2024 due to his deteriorating cognitive health, more than a year before he passed away.

On Thursday, a spokesperson for Wilson didn’t provide an immediate response when we reached out to them for a comment from The Times.

Music

The renowned songwriter Brian Wilson, who penned an iconic soundtrack for Southern California through his series of hit songs with the Beach Boys, has passed away at the age of 82.

As a devoted cinephile, I found myself deeply saddened by the news shared across social media platforms – Facebook, Instagram, and Wilson’s personal site – about the musician’s passing. In this moment, I find myself utterly speechless, struggling to find the right words. The cause of his death remains undisclosed for now.

His close ones requested, ‘Please understand our need for solitude during this difficult period as our family mourns. We acknowledge that we are exposing our pain to the public.’

Following the announcement of Brian Wilson’s passing, notable musicians such as Elton John, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood from the Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen, and Mick Fleetwood expressed their tributes on social media platforms. In addition, California Governor Gavin Newsom honored Wilson for his significant contribution to California’s musical landscape, particularly for hits like “Surfer Girl,” “California Girls,” and “Wouldn’t It Be Nice.

In a statement, Newsom expressed that Wilson significantly transformed contemporary music, making the Beach Boys not only the quintessential American band of their time but also the iconic California band up until now. He skillfully encapsulated the allure and magic of California, spreading it globally and influencing generations.

Wilson, who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 82, was undeniably one of the innovative pioneers in the realm of music, if we can use the term ‘visionary’ to describe someone who explored and manipulated the boundless potential of audio.

The death certificate shows that Wilson was buried a week following his demise, specifically at the Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park and Funeral Home.

2024 saw the passing of a dear film aficionado, over a year after the loss of his beloved wife Melinda in January. She was 77 years young. His legacy endures through his six children, among them daughters Carnie and Wendy, who formed two-thirds of the Grammy-nominated pop vocal sensation Wilson Philips. Regrettably, he is also followed by his brothers Dennis and Carl, who left us prematurely in 1983 (Dennis while diving in Marina Del Rey) and 1998 (Carl due to lung cancer).
