Grantchester’s Tom Brittney lands role in new ’80s-set crime drama – here’s all the details

Grantchester‘s Tom Brittney is set to appear in a brand new period crime drama for MGM+.

In the 1980s’ beginning, The Westies will center their activities around the building of the Jacob Javits Convention Center, capitalizing on the potential benefits it offered for the Irish-American criminal network.

In New York City, there existed a notorious street gang known as the Westies, who were infamous for their involvement in organized crime activities such as extortion, narcotics distribution, and hitmanship, often collaborating with the Italian-American criminal underworld.

In the gritty Hell’s Kitchen district of Manhattan, they conducted their criminal activities, gaining notoriety due to the extreme violence associated with them.

Star of “Make Me Famous”, Brittney, is set to portray James ‘Jimmy’ Rourke, a charismatic Irish gangster spearheading the newer generation of Westies.

By the specified deadline, the synopsis proceeds with: “An internal struggle between the reckless youngsters and traditional leaders within the gang could ignite a spark, potentially drawing the Westies further into the FBI’s intensifying probe of the Italian mafia.

Brittney shared her good news on Instagram, posting a snippet from Deadline’s article and writing as a caption: “Off to Hell’s Kitchen… Cheers! ☘️🗽” (Sláinte is an Irish term for cheers)

Together with J.K. Simmons, he will jointly oversee the filming process, with Simmons playing the role of Eamon Sweeney, who serves as Jimmy’s guide.

Additionally, Titus Welliver and Jessica Frances Dukes have been added to the cast for a project that will commence shooting in July in Toronto.

In the ITV show “Grantchester,” Brittney is recognized for portraying Will Davenport, who takes over from Sidney Chambers as the Anglican vicar in the fictional town of Grantchester.

More recently, he acted together with Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz in the Netflix comedy-spy series titled “Back in Action“.

The movie centered around two ex-CIA agents, Emily and Matt, who were unwillingly pulled back into the clandestine realm of spying when their hidden pasts were unveiled. In this movie, Brittney played a lethal assassin tasked with eliminating Emily and Matt.
