Clash of Clans Crafted Defenses Guide: Complete list, how they work, and more details

In June 2025, the popular game Clash of Clans introduced a new feature called Crafted Defenses. Currently available at Town Hall level 17, these new defenses provide an additional layer of protection for your base, and there are various types to choose from. As the number of defenses continues to grow, here’s a comprehensive guide that covers the details of each defense, how they function, and more.

What are Crafted Defenses in Clash of Clans

In your main village, you’ll find Crafted Defenses – unique structures that allow you to customize their functionality. You can access these at your Town Hall level 17. Unlike other buildings, Crafted Defenses are constructed using the Crafting Station, a free, instant-build structure with dimensions of 3×3.

After positioning it, you can swiftly toggle among three distinct defense modes at your convenience with the help of the Cycle Defense button. Each Self-Made Defense allows for personalization by enhancing specific components like health points, damage per shot, attack cool-down, and various other attributes.

In this setup, each individual stat begins at level 1 and has the potential to reach level 10. The total level for a Crafted Defense is determined by adding up all its enhanced components, capping out at level 30. During the Crafting Phase, which typically spans about three months, there’s only one collection of defenses accessible at any given time.

When the phase concludes, existing defense systems get dismantled and fresh ones are installed, beginning anew at level 1. You’re allowed to enhance one module per defense sequentially. If you possess sufficient builders, you can concurrently upgrade modules of all three defenses.

List of Crafted Defenses in Clash of Clans

At the moment, you’ll find three unique defense structures in the game: The Hook Tower, the Flame Spinner, and the Crusher Mortar.

1. Hook Tower

The Hook Tower serves as a single-focus defensive structure, attracting both airborne and ground units (except Siege Machines) within a range of 4 to 15 tiles. Once close enough, it momentarily incapacitates these units with a stun lasting up to 3.6 seconds at its maximum level. However, the Hook Tower does not inflict any direct damage, instead luring enemies into areas where they will incur heavier damage.

2. Flame Spinner

Visually, it’s apparent that Flame Spinner functions like a flamethrower-esque defense, dishing out persistent splash damage in the form of a series of 28 shots per cycle. It boasts a reach of 8 tiles and can engage both airborne and ground-based units. Although its DPS might seem impressive on paper, its true effectiveness stems from the burst fire and total number of shots it can unleash.

3. Crusher Mortar

Functions similarly to an enhanced cannonball launcher, firing spiked projectiles capable of bouncing up to three times, causing damage in a straight line. Its range is from 2.5 to 9 tiles, and the splash damage affects units even within its lethal zone. The most beneficial upgrades are those that increase area damage and rate of fire, enhancing its ability to control groups of enemies.
