  • Seiko celebrates the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships with the limited-edition SSC955 in Edo Purple
  • Features include a solar-powered V192 movement, chronograph functions and an engraved commemorative caseback
  • Limited to 6,000 pieces, the watch is availlable for pre-order now

To honor its position as the official timekeeper for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Seiko introduces a unique Prospex Speedtimer model: the SSC955, which stands out with its captivating Edo Purple dial. This color, traditionally linked to nobility and serving as the official color of the championships, also symbolizes Tokyo’s rich cultural background while highlighting Seiko’s enduring commitment to precision sports timing over the years.

This watch is housed in a 39mm stainless steel case and boasts a “panda” design, with its black chronograph subdials contrasting beautifully against a radiant purple dial finished with a sunray effect. For improved readability, it has faceted black indices, matte black sword-shaped hands infused with Lumibrite, and a fixed black tachymeter bezel that adds a practical, stylish touch.

Equipped with Seiko’s solar V192 movement, the SSC955 model boasts a chronograph for 60 minutes, a 24-hour indicator, and an impressive power reserve that can last up to six months when fully charged. This watch stands out with its special commemorative case back, intricately engraved with the Tokyo 2025 logo and its unique edition number, adding to its exclusive nature.

This three-piece stainless steel band bracelet has polished middle links and a quick-release clasp. Manufactured in a limited edition of only 6,000 pieces globally, the Seiko Prospex Speedtimer SSC955 is set to sell for approximately £650 GBP ($891 USD). As of now, it can be pre-ordered, and it’s scheduled to hit stores in August 2025 via Seiko’s UK website, boutiques, and select retailers.
