6 Marvel Villains Who Deserve A Second Chance In MCU’s Phase 7
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s possible that some past villains are yet to be seen again, and considering the upcoming Phase 7, this could be an opportune moment for their return. Unfortunately, the MCU has a pattern in several films of offing powerful adversaries like Killmonger, Hela, and The Mandarin prematurely, thus losing notable characters.
Although several other antagonists are still alive and kicking, it’s been hinted that Justin Hammer could resurface and cause trouble down the line, as actor Sam Rockwell himself has suggested. During a chat on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Rockwell expressed his interest in reprising his role as Justin Hammer following his arrest in Iron Man 2. Given that Iron Man is no more, it would be intriguing to see Justin Hammer stirring up trouble for War Machine or Ironheart in the future.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), major antagonists have met their demise. Yet, there’s a host of formidable villains who are still alive. Some are behind bars, others are in hiding, while some were exiled, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t resurface again. The upcoming event Secret Wars might bring significant changes to Earth, and the MCU Phase 7 could pave the way for these characters to make a comeback.
The Best MCU Villains Who Should Return
Justin Hammer
Sam Rockwell’s character Justin Hammer leads the pack, as he sparked conversations about substantial profits. He deceived the U.S. government into believing he could manufacture new Stark armor for the military, only to later betray them by selling his services to the highest bidder. Iron Man took out Whiplash, but Hammer was discreetly apprehended once matters spiraled out of control.
It’s plausible that Hammer is being held in a lower-security facility like The Raft or a similar prison, as he isn’t a fully-fledged supervillain. However, his intelligence and influence could potentially lead others to aid in his release, if he promises to assist them. While he may not be on par with Tony Stark intellectually, he possesses enough wit to create trouble within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
Baron Zemo
Initially underwhelming as a villain in “Captain America: Civil War,” Baron Zemo unexpectedly won over fans with his performance in “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.” If he were to make another appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 7, there is potential for some exciting moments.
The dance scene featuring Baron Zemo became a popular internet sensation, but it represented much more than just a humorous moment. In the Disney+ series, Zemo showcased a genuine character depth that underscored his appeal as a compelling figure. Leaving Zemo out of the Thunderbolts team was regrettable, and introducing him later in the New Avengers or rekindling his relationship with Sam Wilson could prove to be an enjoyable turn of events.
The Vulture
No Way Home, the villains were sent back to their respective universes; however, since Vulture originates from the MCU, he shouldn’t have been transported at all.
As a diehard movie fan, I can’t help but rave about Michael Keaton’s outstanding portrayal of the Vulture. Age is just a number when it comes to him, considering how the character is older in the comics. Regardless of how much older he gets, Keaton could easily reprise his role.
There was an exciting buzz surrounding the possibility of Vulture and a villain like Scorpion (remember, we caught a glimpse of him in prison during the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Homecoming) uniting to form the ominous Sinister Six. That dream is still alive, and I truly believe Vulture deserves a spot on that team.
Baron Mordo
In the movie “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness“, it was actually an alternate Earth version of Baron Mordo who appeared, not the original character. It’s quite disheartening that one of Strange’s formidable foes, who has shown potential to be a major threat, was merely a supporting character in both of his films and didn’t get the opportunity to fully demonstrate his destructive capabilities. Given that Baron Mordo is still alive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), there’s a strong argument for giving him another chance to torment Strange mercilessly.
High Evolutionary
Despite not being immediately clear, it can be inferred that High Evolutionary survived the events depicted in “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”. Throughout the film, he emerged as one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s most despised antagonists, primarily due to his harsh treatment towards Rocket Raccoon and his fellow animals. Among all the MCU villains, it is High Evolutionary that fans have fervently wished to see perish.
It turns out that Drax the Destroyer didn’t let High Evolutionary perish; instead, he rescued him and brought him to safety. Although most of the Guardians are absent, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is rumored to delve deeper into outer space, making it likely for High Evolutionary to reappear. It remains a mystery whom this villain might target next, but his return could potentially create trouble for anyone who encounters him.
Sharon Carter
In the Captain America films starring Steve Rogers, a character named Sharon Carter served as his ally and had a romantic connection with him. She is the niece of Peggy Carter, who was Steve’s most significant love interest. However, in the final twist of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Sharon was revealed to be the antagonist known as the Power Broker.
This suggests that she has significant influence over various villains’ activities and is likely to resurface with potential trouble. Her comeback date isn’t specified, but it’s anticipated that her return may involve either Sam Wilson or Bucky Barnes. However, there’s a possibility she could turn into an adversary for the New Avengers in the future.
