Jailed Love Island star Cashel Barnett accused of sexually assaulting his ex in front of their child

Love Island television personality, Cashel Barnett, is facing a fresh sexual assault accusation following his incarceration last month under charges of domestic violence against an ex-partner.

34-year-old Barnett, who featured on a dating show last year, was initially detained at the Salt Lake City jail in Utah after an incident on April 10 where he allegedly strangled the mother of his one-year-old child in the presence of their child.

I found myself facing serious charges, which included a felony for aggravated assault, a domestic violence incident in the company of a minor, and two lesser offenses of misdemeanor assault.

In late 2024, Utah authorities have added three new accusations against Barnett, all related to the same alleged victim. These include first-degree aggravated sexual assault, third-degree aggravated assault, and third-degree domestic violence while a child was present.

Barnett has denied all the charges. 

According to court records acquired by DailyMail.com, it is alleged that Barnett forcefully seized his former girlfriend, forced her head onto a couch causing her to lose consciousness, and then reportedly assaulted her sexually in a violent manner, all while their child was present, in the month of December 2024.

It was asserted that following an appeal from the supposed victim for him to secure employment to aid in supporting their child, there was a period of approximately one month during which he abstained from any form of physical interaction with them.

According to the claim made by the individual asserted to be the victim, the alleged incident started when Barnett reportedly inserted his hands into the victim’s pants. When she reciprocated with a kiss, he allegedly pushed her off the couch and stated that she wouldn’t receive what she was trying to get because she was in trouble.

According to the victim’s account, I assert that I voiced my concerns about his manipulative behavior towards me. When I attempted to retreat to my bedroom, he reportedly grabbed my hands from behind and demonstrated the handcuff position, before lifting me up in a swoop and depositing me on the couch.

According to the account, Barnett lowered his trousers and yelled at her, “Is this exactly what you desired?” and “Are you content now?” (implying strong displeasure or anger).

According to the reported victim, she was pushed onto a couch and as a result, she found it difficult to breathe and passed out for around a minute.

She asserted that she was roused when Barnett allegedly sat her upright forcefully, struck her across the face quite harshly, and continued doing so repeatedly.

According to the claimed victim, Barnett is said to have brutally raped her and subsequently choked her, causing her to feel faint.

The claim is that the assault ended when she took hold of their one-year-old child, who was weeping.

Barnett currently remains in custody, with no bail set, and will appear in court this coming week. We have reached out to Barnett’s representatives for a statement but have not received a response as of now.

In response to TMZ’s inquiry, Mr. Barnett’s lawyer stated that he firmly upholds his innocence and rejects any allegations of misconduct.

‘My client and his loved ones are going through a very tough period, and we ask for their privacy to be maintained while we tirelessly work towards clearing his name and upholding his good standing.’

Last month, there were allegations that Barnett had a heated exchange with the mother of his child. It is said that during this incident on April 10th, she attempted to console him by embracing him in an effort to calm him down, as reported by KUTV.

According to her, after she tried to move away from him, he supposedly grabbed her arms forcefully. Later, when she attempted to leave, it is alleged that he lifted her off the ground by her neck and tossed her onto the bed.

According to her, he persistently pressed on her neck, making it difficult for her to both breathe properly and maintain clear vision.

She claims Barnett then slapped her in the face and told her ‘you’re fine’.

After the reported occurrence, the affected individual reported symptoms such as persistent coughing, difficulty in swallowing, neck discomfort, feelings of nausea, vomiting, forgetfulness, and a headache.

The court documents state that the report of strangulation is especially troubling. Wounds from strangulation may be severe but not always noticeable at first glance.

Individuals who survive strangulation by their abuser are approximately 7.5 times more likely to be murdered by that same abuser later on.

The authorities argue that if the defendant is not kept in custody, the victim may continue to experience more instances of domestic abuse. Consequently, they are asking for the defendant to be taken into custody without the option of bail.

As well as Love Island, he appeared on The Challenge in 2022 and now works as a model and musician.
