Pregnant Katherine Ryan showcases her bump in grey loungewear as she recreates adorable prom photo with childhood sweetheart Bobby Kootstra

Katherine Ryan reenacted the charming moment from their high school prom with her long-time sweetheart and spouse, Bobby Kootstra.

25 years ago, my high school sweetheart and I cherished our prom moment, but recently, we recreated that memory. Last Wednesday, I shared an adorable photo of us on Instagram, where I’m expecting our fourth child, and he, 42, stands by my side at the age of 41.

In 2019, Katherine, who formed a civil union with Bobby, proudly displayed her growing belly in a comfortable grey pajama set, while they both smiled in front of an elegant cluster of large purple balloons.

Bobby gently held her baby bump with a relaxed air, dressed in a comfortable, light green T-shirt and loose-fitting, off-white drawstring shorts.

In the old photo, a young Katherine gleamed in a strapless white gown for a prom, while she walked hand-in-hand with a smartly-dressed Bobby, who donned a black suit, navy shirt, and corsage.

Later this month’s announcement by Katherine about her pregnancy with her fourth child, husband Bobby Kootstra being the father, has come to light.

Katherine currently has Fred, aged 3, Fenna, aged 2, and Bobby’s child, along with her 15-year-old daughter Violet, from a past relationship.

Over the past few years, she’s been transparent about her difficulties with fertility, disclosing in 2024 that she experienced three miscarriages within a span of five years.

In November, Katherine confessed that she harbors a desire for more children, yet she expresses concern over her advancing years.

She jokingly remarked, ‘Though I used to believe I would be their father due to my work, it turns out I’m more like their grandmother.’ Nowadays, I have aches in my back and occasionally treat them, making me more like a playful grandma.

The comedian also revealed in March 2025 that she was battling melanoma for the second time.

In her podcast, “Telling Everybody Everything,” she openly shared an experience. Specifically, she mentioned that she had undergone a procedure to remove a suspicious growth on her arm, which subsequently was confirmed as malignant (cancerous).

She added that she required more surgery to ensure the entire mass had been removed.

This month, the star is preparing for a busy phase of work, launching her Battleaxe comedy tour.

Apart from that, she additionally manages several podcasts, one of them being the latest one titled “What’s My Age Again?” – a lighthearted and amusing exploration into aging, health, and personal growth.

In 2022, the television personality confided that she hid her second pregnancy due to fear it might impact her job prospects.

She was eight months along with her pregnancy when she hosted ITV’s Ready To Mingle, a detail she kept secret from everyone.

Katherine and her long-time companion, Bobby, have shared their lives since the year 2018. Remarkably, this bond wasn’t forged in adulthood; instead, it stemmed from their childhood friendship, having grown up together right here in Canada.

Originally separated, these longtime lovers found a new spark for their relationship across the ocean.

In the latest installment of their reality series, the couple shared that they were considering the possibility of adding another member to their family by having a fourth child.

In the show, they delved into their marriage by undergoing therapy sessions, followed by seeking assistance at a fertility center.

In the broadcasted episodes from February, Katherine openly acknowledged that having a fourth child might prove difficult, given their advanced ages, both hers and Bobby’s.

In my perspective, it’s no shock that many of us, including myself, may now have less hair follicles than before. However, the conversation often focuses on male fertility too, which appears to be rapidly decreasing as well. Yet, despite these concerns, I still harbor a deep desire for another child, my fourth.

We feel incredibly fortunate to have the children we’ve been blessed with. Not everyone may choose to have kids, but I find great joy in nurturing new life. To me, the ability to bring children into the world is like having a special gift or superpower.

At that point, she clarified that she and her spouse had no issues conceiving before, yet they had experienced several miscarriages.

She shared, “Our pregnancies have typically progressed swiftly. Over the past five years, I’ve experienced pregnancy five times, which unfortunately includes three miscarriages during this period. As age advances, the probability of such occurrences tends to rise.

In an interview with OK! last year, she expressed her opposition towards surrogacy, stating: ‘I believe surrogacy is marvelous and touching for those who genuinely want to provide it and for couples in need. However, for me personally, I feel it could border on exploitation.’

Appearing on the Chris Moyles Show in November, she admitted: ‘I’d have so many more if I could.

If I were a father, I would resemble Robert De Niro in his role, as he is able to have children even at the age of 80. This is because, unlike a mother, a father can conceive well into old age, provided he takes the necessary steps.
