Netflix’s “guilty pleasure” romance-fuelled series that stormed streaming chart gets major update

Ransom Canyon, the western romance series from Netflix, has been renewed for a second season.

According to Jodi Thomas’ book series titled the same, the show features Josh Duhamel as Staten Kirkland and Minka Kelly playing the role of Quinn O’Grady.

In a tiny Texas community, intense emotions rise as three powerful ranching families engage in a fierce struggle over their lands, their heritage, and the people dear to them.

Fans often label it as a secret indulgence, but the series received an official green light for a second season yesterday, as Netflix announced the good news through their social media channels.

Accompanying a photo of the main characters seated in a pickup truck, the broadcaster posted: “Ransom Canyon Season 2? Hooray!” (Informal exclamation)

Alongside Duhamel and Kelly, an array of stars like Eoin Macken, Andrew Liner, Lizzy Greene, Garrett Wareing, Marianly Tejada, Philip Winchester, and Jack Schumacher are part of the ensemble for this upcoming season. At present, it remains undecided which cast members will return for season two beyond Duhamel and Kelly.

Following the release of all ten episodes of season one on a streaming platform on April 17th, the program steadily rose through the rankings and eventually took fifth place in the UK Top 10 on Netflix.

After the debut of its first season, some viewers found similarities with the show “Yellowstone”, whereas others felt it was reminiscent of “Virgin River”.

One critic on IMDb compared this show to Yellowstone, noting that both have human characters who occasionally wear cowboy attire and cows appearing infrequently. However, it’s more accurate to say that Virgin River has been moved to Texas.

What I appreciate about this [show/movie/book] is that it isn’t trying to emulate ‘Yellowstone’ or any other spinoff in the same genre. Instead, it offers a more family-friendly experience, with content that is lighter and less heavy or depressing than what you find in ‘Yellowstone’,” said another person.

One viewer described the series as their “secret indulgence,” while another commented: “If you’re seeking a drama with a hint of rural charm, this could very well become your next fixation.

Ransom Canyon is currently streaming on Netflix.

The debut print issue of Digital Spy’s magazine, “British Comedy Legends,” is out! Grab a copy from your local newsagent or purchase it online for only £3.99!
