Thrilling Netflix hit branded “escapist summer nonsense” is rapidly climbing the streaming chart
As a fervent fan, I’m thrilled to share that an engrossing Netflix series, inspired by true events, is gearing up to capture my – and possibly your – heart this coming summer!
Located in North Carolina, the story The Waterfront unfolds around a powerful fishing dynasty, depicting the extreme measures taken by its main characters to retain their power and riches. Unsurprisingly, these actions often involve violent acts such as murder.
The show has been steadily rising in popularity on the streaming platform, now sitting comfortably in third place among the Top 10 TV content. Trailing closely behind is the series “Dept Q” in fourth position, and the Nigerian thriller “Baby Farm” ranks sixth.

Featuring actors like Melissa Benoist from ‘Supergirl’ and Holt McCallany from ‘Mindhunter’, the show ‘The Waterfront’ is receiving a range of reviews, leaning towards being mostly positive, according to Rotten Tomatoes.
With a 69% rating, the show has earned critical acclaim for its unique blend of absurd family drama.
The review from The Guardian suggests that this summer movie is light-hearted escapism, perhaps lacking any serious intentions. They encourage viewers to immerse themselves in a river of nostalgia, allowing the tide of silliness to carry them gently towards the shore.
IndieWire was quite critical of the show, labeling it as a clearly “sinking vessel,” whereas RogerEbert.com appreciated the series for its “succession of impressively executed and skillfully arranged murder scenes” amidst what seemed like a typical soap opera.
The show is completed by Maria Bello, who played the lead in Beef, taking on the role of matriarch Belle Buckley; Jake Weary as Cane Buckley; and Danielle Campbell as Peyton, Cane’s wife. Additionally, Topher Grace from That ’70s Show will make a special appearance.
This show is originally developed by Kevin Williamson, renowned for creating “Dawson’s Creek” and penning the script for the first “Scream,” along with the subsequent films “Scream 2” and “Scream 4.
Williamson is coming back to lead the next installment of the slasher series, taking over from Christopher Landon who left the production. This new film will feature the return of Neve Campbell, who had skipped the previous movie due to a salary disagreement, and David Arquette. However, Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera won’t be reprising their roles in this one.
The Waterfront is streaming on Netflix.
