In a fresh adaptation, it’s been made known that additional actors will take on roles alongside Daniel Casey, who is set to play DCI Tom Barnaby, a renowned character from the series Midsomer Murders.
Entitled “Midsomer Murders: Deaths at Badger’s Drift”, the forthcoming stage production is a rendition of the initial novel from the book series penned by Caroline Graham.
As I team up with Casey, who brought Sergeant Gavin Troy to life in the series as Barnaby’s sidekick, the play has expanded its cast to an impressive lineup. Now, The Diplomat’s Nathalie Barclay and Chandrika Chevli from Unforgotten have joined our ranks.
The group is completed by John Dougall, Julie Legrand, Rupert Sadler, Chris Agha, and Rhîan Crowley-McLean.

It appears that the actor taking on the role of Sgt Troy, which was previously portrayed by Casey for seven seasons up to 2003, has not yet been revealed. We can expect an announcement about Barnaby’s second at a later time.

In the idyllic town of Badger’s Drift, the tragic death of Emily Simpson, a cherished spinster, leaves her friend Lucy Bellringer doubting it was merely an accident. DCI Tom Barnaby and his assistant Sergeant Gavin Troy are summoned to probe this case, unraveling a tapestry of concealed emotions, buried pasts, and lethal animosities.
Featuring peculiar townsfolk, unexpected plot turns, and a jaw-dropping finale, “The Killings at Badger’s Drift” is a timeless murder mystery that keeps viewers guessing.
In the meantime, Casey has pondered over taking on the character of Barnaby, confessing that he is a bit nervous about following in John Nettles’ large footsteps.
For thirteen seasons, Nettles portrayed her role on television, until Tom Barnaby stepped down and his first cousin, DCI John Barnaby, played by Neil Dudgeon, took over the position.

He shared with RadioTimes.com earlier this month that it seems fitting, there’s a hint of apprehension, and he admits to feeling a bit nervous, but given his age is similar to John’s in the initial episode, it all feels right.
He went on to express his great eagerness to take over the role, acknowledging that the task ahead is a significant one.
From October 2025 to April 2026, the stage production of “Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger’s Drift” will travel across the United Kingdom. Tickets can be purchased through ATG.
Midsomer Murders seasons 1-23 are available on ITVX.
