Neil Young throws ‘BBC bosses into chaos over Glastonbury set as star makes unusual demand’ after saying festival was ‘under corporate control’
According to reports, Neil Young has stirred up a commotion among BBC executives due to an unconventional request he made ahead of his performance at Glastonbury Festival.
At the upcoming festival in Somerset, an esteemed singer, aged 79, joins the lineup alongside music legends such as Sir Rod Stewart and Nile Rogers.
Nevertheless, it remains unclear how much of his performance at the Pyramid Stage on Saturday will air on television, as reported by The Mirror.
According to reports, Neil is currently in negotiations with the broadcasting company, and it seems that he might only permit a limited number of his songs to be featured.
At this moment, it’s unclear if the videos he permits are going to be live broadcasts or compiled into a highlights reel instead.
Earlier this month, the BBC unveiled their lineup for live performances, featuring Charli XCX and Doechii among the main headliners on Saturdays.

However, Neil has been left out of the live schedule due to ongoing negations with the BBC.
A representative from the BBC shared with The Mirror that their goal is to share as many concerts as they can from the Pyramid Stage. They emphasized that their lineup and plans are still being worked out, even up until and throughout the festival itself.
TopMob has contacted BBC and Neil’s representatives for comment.
In January, the musician eventually consented to perform at the Glastonbury Festival, which he had previously declined due to being under the corporate management of the BBC.
The singer along with his fresh band, The Chrome Hearts, were believed to be among the contenders for the major music festival that occurs at Worthy Farm.
On New Year’s Day, Neil dropped a shocking revelation, alleging that the festival is under the grip of the BBC. This claim seems to have dampened the spirits of dedicated fans like myself.
On Neil Young’s website, it was stated that he decided against performing at the Glastonbury Festival because of a mistake in the information he received, despite his longstanding affection for the event.
Great news! The festival has been added to our schedule again, and we’re excited to perform. We hope you can join us!
It’s fantastic that the festival is back on our plans, and we can hardly wait to take part. Hopefully, we’ll meet there!

As a die-hard admirer, let me share some heartfelt words that resonate with me deeply, penned by Young in a recent correspondence on the Neil Young Archives: “The anticipation for performing at Glastonbury, one of my cherished open-air concerts, was shared between myself and Chrome Hearts.
The information given indicates that the BBC has become a partner at Glastonbury, suggesting new approaches that don’t appeal to us. This makes it appear as though Glastonbury has shifted towards corporate management, which contrasts with my past memories of the event.
‘Regrettably, we won’t perform at Glastonbury during this tour as it now feels too commercial for my liking compared to earlier times. I look forward to connecting with you at another venue on our tour instead.’
For quite some time, the BBC has been broadcasting performances from music festivals on different TV and radio platforms.
At the Glastonbury festival in 2009, a part of Neil’s performance wasn’t fully televised by the BBC because his management raised objections.
In response to fan criticism, the BBC admitted that negotiations with his management over the amount of his performance they could air had been ongoing for the past couple of months.
‘Neil Young’s career has been conducted on his own terms,’ the broadcaster said at the time.
Neil’s supervisors consented to air five songs during his performance on television and radio, as they observed and appreciated his act. They value the authenticity of live events and preserving the enigma surrounding both the event and their artist.
At the 1997 festival, the performer was scheduled to make an appearance too, yet he ended up canceling due to an accident while preparing a ham sandwich that resulted in a cut on his finger.
In his latest musical ensemble, Neil is joined by Micah Nelson on the guitar, Spooner Oldham handling the organ duties, Corey McCormick on the bass, and Anthony LoGerfo manning the drums.

Kickstarting the new year with exciting news! The heart of Glastonbury, Emily Eavis, teased about intense discussions happening secretly as she shared: ‘Neil Young, a cherished artist for us at Glastonbury, is making a comeback on our Pyramid Stage!’
As a lifestyle connoisseur, I must say, there’s something uniquely captivating about this individual who marches to the beat of his own drum. His distinct approach is what makes him stand out, and it’s exactly why we eagerly anticipate his return to grace our Pyramid stage in June as headliner.
In another location, Roman Kemp recently gave an unusual caution to attendees of the Glastonbury Festival, 24 hours prior to its grand start in the UK.
A 32-year-old podcaster and television host who appears on The One Show is set to join approximately 210,000 music enthusiasts making their way to Worthy Farm in Somerset for a five-day event, which is sponsored by Vodafone – the National Network.
Roman unveiled his essential five picks for summer festival attendees, along with the one item he’d definitely leave at home.
He mentioned that a battery pack is an indispensable item for him, and he added: “Carry two of them if possible, as you’ll become a favorite among all, but primarily you’ll use it for your own purposes. They are indeed true essentials.
Among the crucial items on Kemp’s list that I prioritize, there’s waterproof attire, a portable chair for comfort, a sturdy water bottle, and an engaging outdoor pastime.
Well, here’s my two cents from a die-hard fan: If you’re heading to Glastonbury this year, remember not to bring a paddling pool. It doesn’t mix well with the festival vibe!
He mentioned that he has come across several wading pools, and his opinion is that any type of pool, including paddling pools, should not be located at a festival. After all, one can never predict what might contaminate the water there.
‘I’ve seen it, it doesn’t go well… the water turns brown, very quickly.’
