Stranded On Honeymoon Island star Brie opens up on her wild ride – and why nice guys used to scare her

For Brie White, the newlywed on Stranded On Honeymoon Island, signing up for a tropical romance turned out to be a much more intense experience than she had envisioned.

In an interview with Daily Mail Australia, the 29-year-old shared that revisiting their wedding video for the first time was akin to gazing upon a younger version of herself. Despite this, the moment still stirred up recollections of the intense emotional journey she navigated during her time on the island.

She was watching with a mix of nostalgia and amazement, exclaiming, “Wow, I was just a little one back then!” she shared. It was both heartwarming and slightly astonishing to see her past self in the footage. The uncertainty in her expression was evident.

Initially not having experienced love prior to joining the program, Brie found herself matched with Byron, aged 33. She describes an immediate connection, as if sparks flew when they first crossed paths.

She immediately sensed a strong bond, “I admitted,” adding, “It was undeniably present… yet its intensity left me apprehensive. Reflecting on the moment brought back a sense of confinement. There seemed to be no avenue for escape.

Brie acknowledged that while it wasn’t love exactly, this connection stirred emotions within her more intensely than any previous relationships had.

‘There was something there – I was scared of how strong it felt,’ she confessed.

Still, the fast-tracked wedding process was confronting.

Brie chuckled and said, “That moment really took me aback! It all seemed so unreal – one moment I had no ring, the next I was exchanging vows with a stranger. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would do something like that, let alone without my loved ones by my side.

Brie said getting married without her loved ones was one of the hardest parts of the process.

She had envisioned a grand wedding, filled with the joyous presence of many, as they celebrated her special day. However, it ended up being only her and her partner, with no familiar faces in sight. The emptiness left her feeling awkward and fearful.

Despite the nerves, Brie said she knew she wanted Byron from the speed dating round.

She disclosed that when they inquired about whom I preferred, I responded by stating, ‘Just Number 11,’ and when I spotted him walking towards me, I felt incredibly relieved, a sense of calm washing over me immediately.

The most challenging part of the show, she said, wasn’t the isolation – it was the personal growth.

She shared that she embarked on a significant self-discovery phase, cutting off communication with her usual confidant and refraining from checking up on him online as they hadn’t exchanged contact details yet, nor had she learned his new surname. The routines she was accustomed to in relationships were no longer applicable.

At certain instances, I found myself in my bed contemplating, ‘This is too much for me’ – I clearly recall the third day. The duration of our stay was uncertain. We were clueless about the date. A single day seemed to last a full week.

Inquired about whether anything seemed distinct when the cameras were off, Brie confessed that boundaries swiftly became indistinct for her.

She explained that after only a couple of days, the cameras became virtually unnoticed by her. The passage of time seemed to stretch unusually, with two days feeling as long as two weeks and three days feeling comparable to three months.

Brie also revealed how little the participants were told going in.

She stated, “They gave us no information,” indicating that she had entered into a marriage with someone she barely knew from speed dating, and was to travel to an island without any knowledge of the other couples or whether they would meet again. Moreover, she hadn’t been informed about the duration of their journey, only knowing it would last for three weeks.

Reflecting on the past, I found myself confronting numerous anxieties – even those red flags I had earlier overlooked due to the powerful emotional pull.

Previously, the thought of nice men in a relationship would terrify her, as any aspect of romantic connections made her anxious. However, now she has come to realize that what she truly desires is someone who exhibits kindness, lacks arrogance or rudeness, and maintains good personal hygiene.

As for the glamour side of reality TV? Forget it.

By the third day, what I needed became trivial,” Brie explained, “like my dental floss and mouthwash. As for makeup, it simply wasn’t on my radar.

The forthcoming series offers a blend of drama, heart-wrenching moments, and surprising romance tales; however, what truly distinguishes it from other dating programs is its emphasis on authenticity, as mentioned by Brie.

She remarked, “It lacked finesse, and I had no idea what would happen next – that’s precisely how I felt experiencing it myself.” It transformed me.
