Divisive ITV crime drama shoots right to the top of Netflix’s UK trending chart days after being added

A popular Australian crime series headlined by Joanne Froggatt from “Downton Abbey” has surged to the top of the most-watched content on Netflix.

The show was added to the streaming platform last week. It was initially obtained by ITV following its Australian premiere in 2023, leading people to draw parallels with the popular murder mystery series, “Broadchurch”.

The crime drama series, titled “North Shore“, consists of six installments and unfolds primarily on and around the stunning backdrop of Sydney Harbour. In this thrilling narrative, a British and an Australian detective join forces to untangle a perplexing murder mystery that is deeply intertwined with a larger political landscape.

As a devoted viewer, I’m thrilled to share that Froggatt isn’t alone in this series. Alongside her, we have John Bradley West from the epic saga of Game of Thrones, Kirsty Sturgess who brought life to Thirteen Lives, Matt Passmore known for Last Man Standing, and the talented duo Cassandra Sorrell and Dan Spielman.

Audience responses on IMDb have been varied, with some commending the acting and principal performances, labeling it as a “methodically paced” dramatic production.

One viewer commented, “The principal actors are appealing and there are some intricate character portrayals, which make this drama simple to follow despite its generally average quality.

A different spectator labeled the series as an “unexpected delight,” attributing its appeal to “the captivating performances of the two leading actors.

One viewer seemed unimpressed by the series, labeling it as a routine murder mystery, but another viewer encouraged others to stick with it until the end, as the crime drama offers an unexpected twist in its climax.

Apologies to those who rated it poorly, perhaps they stopped watching before the final episode.
