Shocking Twists and Betrayals in Olympo’s Gripping Season Finale!
The show Olympo is packed with excitement. Just like Elite, this Netflix series focuses on a group of ambitious young adults who prepare at the Pirineros High Performance Center in Spain, aiming for Winter Cup victories and Olympic medals. The cast is quite extensive, as each character competes not only for glory but also for sponsorship from the brand Olympo. This company selects only the most promising athletes to endorse, a move that provides crucial recognition which can catapult an athlete’s career to greater heights.
Reaching the Olympics requires backing, a fact echoed by aspiring athletes like our character, Amaia (Clara Galle). She pushes herself tirelessly to become Spain’s top synchronized swimmer, and as the season winds down, she uncovers some crucial details about her peers.
The drug discovery
In the second-to-last episode of Olympo, Amaia’s long-nurtured suspicions about doping among Pirineos athletes are validated: several athletes have been secretly administered performance-enhancing drugs. The High Performance Center (HPC) isn’t acting alone; they are collaborating with Olympo to test these drugs on potential star athletes. These drugs are undetectable, posing a grave threat to the integrity of competitive sports. In the final moments of the episode, Charly (Martí Cordero) spews hateful and homophobic remarks at his teammate Roque (Agustin Della Corte), who is openly gay. Roque, who had been given the drugs to heal a broken hand, retaliates violently, attacking Charly viciously, causing him to sustain deep wounds and become stuck with a large piece of glass in his arm. As the episode concludes, both Charly and Roque are seen lying on the floor, severely injured. If that isn’t enough, wait until you hear what transpires next.
The conclusion sees competitors readying themselves for their individual competitions that will determine who qualifies for the world championships. Amaia continues her efforts to unmask the school and sports institution, Olympo, for doping athletes, by informing the anti-doping agency and persuading them to carry out blood tests on the athletes.
In his recuperation, Roque awakens only to discover he’s lost sensation in his hand. Desperate, he pleads with Hugo to undo whatever was done, but the stern-faced Hugo (Sergio Álvarez), a retired rugby champion and star at Olympo, menaces him, stating that any further complaints will end his rugby career permanently. The doctors assure Hugo there’s no cause for concern, although they caution that remnants of the drug may surface if they conduct extensive tests. However, the blood test results eventually turn out clean, implying athletes like Nuria (Maria Romanillos), who also took the drug, are cleared to compete.
The sports competitions have begun, and Zoe (Nira Oshaia) emerges victorious in her race following a burst of energy after her friend Renata (Andy Duato) sustains an injury. Meanwhile, Amaia’s world is flipped around when her mother, a previous Olympic champion, shows up to compel Amaia to return to competition. Desperate to avoid competing, Amaia resorts to drastic measures like taking laxatives; however, she gets caught by Fátima (Najwa Khliwa). As Fátima departs, she tumbles down the stairs, and it’s insinuated that Amaia might have pushed her. In the wake of Fátima’s departure, Amaia finds herself back in the competition and one step closer to her long-cherished dream of Olympic gold.
Instead of Nuria, Amaia’s dearest companion, siding against her, it’s Peque (Laura Ubach) whom she prefers. This action leaves Amaia heartbroken, but what she didn’t know was that Nuria wasn’t given a choice in the matter. The pressure to make this decision came from Jana (Melina Matthews), an executive at Olympo, who is collaborating with Hugo to expel students trying to expose the school for its illicit drug use. One of these students is Zoe, who lost her sponsorship from Olympo even after winning her race, as she refused to use the drugs.
Roque, with his intention to bring down Olympo due to their unfair treatment towards him as a gay athlete and for supplying him with performance-enhancing drugs, perceives Olympo’s actions as pinkwashing – exploiting his sexuality to mask the true nature of their drug program. Escaping from the facility, Roque reunites with his teammate and boyfriend Sebas (Juan Perales) and Zoe at a secluded cabin where Olympo athletes often retreat for leisure. They aren’t the only ones seeking justice against Olympo, as they are joined by another Olympo sponsor, Cristian (Nuno Gallego). Zoe discloses their strategy to bring down Olympo: she has obtained a sample of the performance-enhancing drug that Olympo uses to gain an unfair advantage over other athletes.
What happens to Amaia in Olympo?
Today, as a movie lover watching the synchronized swimming competition unfold, I find myself spellbound yet again by the unexpected twist that Olympo throws our way: Amaia has made an astonishing comeback, partnering with Nuria in this performance they’ve perfected for years. Their synchronization is flawless and breathtaking to watch, leaving me utterly captivated.
However, it’s the climax of their routine that leaves me absolutely stunned. Amaia and Nuria execute a seemingly impossible underwater stunt – one so challenging that mere mortals couldn’t even dream of attempting it. What makes their performance truly remarkable is how effortlessly they perform this feat repeatedly, demonstrating breath control beyond human limits.
In the first episode, we saw Nuria risk her life trying to break a record, but here, Amaia and Nuria surpass that record with apparent ease. It can only mean one thing – Amaia has succumbed to Olympo’s influence and abandoned her fight against them. While everyone stands up to applaud the duo, Zoe and her friends are left heartbroken, knowing the truth.
Amaia, once the driving force in our quest for justice, now seems to crumble under the immense weight of expectation placed upon her by herself and her mother – the desire to achieve greatness has proven too much to bear.
In a turn of events at the arena, Zoe departs and encounters an official from the anti-doping agency, handing over a sample of an undetectable drug. Meanwhile, at the poolside, Amaia exits the water and locks eyes with her boyfriend Cristian, witnessing his heartbreak. However, before Amaia could step away, she experiences a reaction to the drug, losing her footing and plunging back into the pool. As she submerges to the bottom of the pool, the season concludes. Yet, even though the Olympo battle isn’t over, Amaia’s collapse and Zoe’s evidence are poised to create a massive stir in the upcoming season of Olympo.
