British LGBT Awards 2025 Jess Glynne proudly accepts trophy on behalf of girlfriend Alex Scott as the BBC Sport star is honoured alongside Jade Thirlwall, GK Barry and Steps’ Ian H Watkins

At the illustrious British LGBT Awards 2025, held at The Brewery in London on a Friday night, Alex Scott and Jade Thirwall were the ones who took home the top prize, having led the winning team.

At a dazzling event, Scott Mills and Kemah Bob were the hosts, and it was here that Alex’s pop singer partner, Jess Glynne (age 35), received the LGBTQ+ Public Figure award on behalf of a BBC Sport presenter.

At the BRIT Awards last year, the pair first walked the red carpet together, having maintained privacy about their relationship for several months. Later, they revealed that they decided to keep their romance under wraps because they felt it was something unique and significant.

In the meantime, Jade received the title of Moet’s Celebrity Ally of The Year, acknowledging her advocacy for queer rights and issues. This recognition came only a few weeks following an instance where she rallied thousands to join an anti-JK Rowling protest chant.

Additionally, I’m A Celebrity contestants GK Barry and Richard Coles, known for their heartwarming friendship that made a significant impact in LGBTQ+ media this year, were also recognized.

49-year-old actor Ian H Watkins, best known for his role on “Steps,” was honored with the Special Recognition Award for his advocacy promoting queer parenthood through his public platform. He shares nine-year-old twin boys Macsen and Cybi with his ex-partner Craig Ryder.

55-year-old Billy Porter, a renowned actor both on stage and screen, also received a Special Recognition award himself. Meanwhile, television personalities India Willoughby and Ella Morgan were awarded the inaugural Pride.Purpose.Progress #StrongerTogether Award, which recognizes the transgender community.

Jade, who wasn’t able to attend in person but participated through a video call, expressed her affection for her LGBTQ+ followers by saying she “treasures” them, followed by a playful thank-you to those who purchased items from her merchandise line, which includes jockstraps.

Last year, the singer caused some surprise when she revealed her product line, which encompassed items such as a keychain with a built-in butt plug and a bottle of silicone-based lubricant.

She expressed her gratitude three times for receiving the award, mentioning it means everything to her. From deep within, she wants to express her love and admiration for the LGBTQ+ community.

Without a doubt, I wouldn’t have achieved my current status if not for the community that has stood by me, helping me grow into the best artist and ally I could become.

Instead of saying: “And I would personally like to thank my gay fans especially for making my jock strap my best-selling merchandise piece – thank you so, so much”, you could rephrase it as: “I’d like to express my gratitude to my LGBTQ+ fans who have made the most popular item in my merchandise line – my jock strap. Thank you all very much.

Jade added: ‘To be clear, my support isn’t based on any kind of exchange. For quite some time, being a strong ally has been deeply important to me, and I consistently strive to stand by and uplift the community.’

At present, it’s incredibly important that allies not only voice their support but also take action in standing with the LGBTQ+ community, especially the transgender community.

Instead of saying: “I’m really sorry that I can’t be there tonight, I’m genuinely gutted. But I just want to say congratulations to all of the winners tonight and you have my oath, for eternity, that I will constantly strive to be the ally that you deserve,”

You could also say: “I sincerely regret not being able to make it tonight as I’m genuinely disappointed. However, I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to everyone who won tonight. I promise, for all time, to work tirelessly to be the partner you can count on.

Jade is far from the first celebrity with a large LGBTQ+ following to release risqué merch.

After the release of her 2020 dance-pop album Chromatica, Lady Gaga subsequently introduced a hot-pink jockstrap to the market. Meanwhile, British singer Charli XCX had previously sold a sex paddle along with a branded douche for her latest album Brat, symbolized by a key on a necklace.
